I have a 9 month old cross between a german and belgian shepherd dog,as with all that type of dog there ears normanly stand up showing that the dog is alert,my dogs ears are rarely up like that.both her parents ears stand up normanly like a shepherd dog does,can anyone tell me is there anything I can do for this as I was told bye someone she might have a protein deficiancy,otherwise she's a happy healthy dog,please reply if there is anything I can do.thank you.

No you can't do anything about it really; there is a tendon surgery that can be done but is not recommended. Cropping is definitely not an option. I guess only done for show dogs. After 8 to l0 months the ears are down.

I doubt that any of the gluing or taping that people do does much good since nearly all their ears eventually stand up on their own. What have you been feeding her? I know an early switch, 4 months, to an adult chow reduces joint problems. Even the large breed puppy chows may have so much calcium them that the body can't absorb it right. I think that it could cause problems with the ears too. Have you discussed it with your vet? Do you know how others in the litter did?

I just feeding her dry food the same food since I got her as a put.its royal canin apperently everything your dog needs including vitimins and minerals are in it.shes a very healthy and triving dog apart from the ears looking lazy for a german shepherd.thanks for the advice all.

All but the cheapest modern chows are carefully formulated to give the dog a carefully balanced and complete diet. If she is eating dry Royal Canin, and little else, nutrition shouldn't be a problem. It is when people start adding this and that, that they have trouble.
