My son wants to attend nursing school. He wants to earn a bsn. We are willing to help support him. But our funds are limited he has a 3.0 gpa and he is an outstanding baseball player, also has a medical disibilitiy that has been in remission for 6 yrs. No one in our family has been to college. Any ideas on grants, scholarships... etc we are from Ohio and are blessed with many schools.

Oh, you are in a great place to start. I am in Nursing school and have been going through on grants and scholarships.
Let me start by asking his age, then I can try and guide you as I am currently a second level nursing student going through school strictly on grants and scholarships.
You see, I started at a local Community College going for my Associates of Applied Science in Nursing first. While at the CC I maintained good grades, kept my GPA above a 3.0 and was inducted into PTK (Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society). I am attending the CC on a Pell grant because I fall within the Pell Grant's financial guidelines.
Now, on to PTK... It is only offered at 2-year colleges and insures that members will be accepted to higher learning universities. Many of these colleges offer scholarships through PTK, as high as full ride scholarships. I am one year away from graduating from my local CC and receive offers from Universities all over the country that offer my placement into their institution on a full ride scholarship basis.
I can use these scholarships for my BSN as well as my MSN.
If funds are tight, I suggest you consider a community college for at least the prerequisites and join PTK when it is offered to your son.
Good luck to you, and I wish your son all the best.
