I am 6 days late for my period. I got off the pill in Jan. and it has been every 28 days since then until this month. In April we started trying to have a baby. I have had numerous negative pregnant. Tests and one negative. Blood test that was taken when I was only 2 days late for my period. Could I still be pregnant? A urine test was negative this am. If I an not pregnant what will the dr. do to make my period start again?

If you have had negative blood tests, chances are that you are not pregnant. Now, there is a slight chance that you are, but that chance is slight.

As for the doctor, there are a couple of hormones (forgive me but the names escape me right now, maybe Buggage will come along with the names) that the docs can give you to get your period started again.

Now remember, you are only 6 days late. In the medical community that is not really late for even the msot regular woman who has NOT been on birth control, and you recently got off. Every once in a while Mother Nature likes to throw us women for a loop. Wait another week, if you still do not have your period then make another doctor's appointment, not just for a blood test, but for an exam as well.

Sorry, I am late on catching up with the posts on this site this week. As far as what the doc might give you to get your periods started up again, I don't know all the names, but I know that one of them is called Provera. They basically will just jump start your periods again, and help you get back on the road to being your regular cycle. As J9 said, being one week late is not incredibly late. Its not uncommon to be late, or even completely miss a cycle now and then. I once missed 2 periods in a row, and was not pregnant. Started going like clockwork again two weeks later. All because I was wanting to conceive baby number 2 so badly. Since you are now trying for a baby, and just getting off the pill, it could be that you are just stressing over wanting baby, and this is setting off your cycles, and/or your body is still recovering from stopping the pill. Doctors usually suggest a waiting time of 3 months after stopping the pill, during which time you should not expect pregnancy, as the pill is still leaving your system. As every woman's body is different and reacts differently to different birth controls, this amount of time varies for each woman. As far as the blood test goes, since you got a negative on the test, you are most likely not pregnant. HOWEVER, the Qualatative blood tests can be wrong. They are much more accurate then hpts, BUT they give negative or positive readings, just like the hpt. SO, if your hcg levels still aren't high enough to register, even on the blood test, then you will still get a negative read out, even if you might be pregnant. This is rare though. I would wait for another 2 weeks. If you still have no period, then I would suggest you go see your doctor, so they can do an exam to look for other determining factors of pregnancy, or what might be causing your period to be off. If they have enough reason to believe you might be pregnant, but tests are still negative, they MIGHT order a Quantative blood test. This is the most accurate of the tests. It measures the actual number of hcg in your system. If there is enough in your system to cause them to suspect pregnancy, the test will be repeated a few days later, to see if the numbers are doubling as they should be in a healthy pregnancy. However, keep in mind that this test is more expensive, and not always covered by insurance. Doctors prefer to wait on giving this test until there is enough reasonable doubt to make them feel the test is truly needed. For now, just sit back and relax, and wait. I'm afraid that's all you can do for now. Good luck!
