A friend highlighted my kind of thin, light brown hair last night. The color is fine, but the streaks are so wide it looks more like all over color rather than highlights. I wanting something more subtle and natural looking. Any suggestions? Thanks.

When applying highlights, you shouldn't go more than three shades lighter or darker than your natural color, as the results will be unnatural. Do not attempt to fix it yourself, it could make matters worse. You should go to a salon and to have the color corrected. The hairstylist may use a toner to tone down the color and soften the highlights.

Pull strands of hair through a highlighting cap and use semipermanent color to match your natural color. This is called a reverse frosting. Some of the lightened hair will not be affected and you will have a more natural look.
