Hi, I have a HP a1740n, and all of a sudden I started it and
NOTHING came on screen, not even the HP logo...
It's just black, followed by one beep and then another longer one...
What could it be??
Thanks!

That sound like bios beep error codes.
Check here (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07107&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&product=71172) for a list of beep codes and what they mean.

If it is an irregular pattern of beeps it could be an indication that the video card is bad. If the video card is built into the mother board, you could attempt to get and use a new video card. But this could also be an indication of a bad motherboard, or one that is starting to go bad.
If it is a regular pattern of beeps, it could be an indication of bad ram. Did you just upgrade ram? Make sure it is seated properly and all ram works well with each other and the board.
In both cases, it might help to swap (if you possibly can) the video card or ram with known working parts to see if that helps you diagnose the problem.

Your user's manual should have a list of error codes that are generated by the motherboard. If not HP, should be able to supply them for you. This will eliminate having to guess at what the problem is.

I would say 90% is a memory issue (RAM) where the machine may have taken an electrical hit, your second issue could be the hard drive is gone so now it can not find it and it is giving you beeping. Most times it is memory.

Just replace your motherboard. There is no issuse with your memory or hard disk.
