What do we have to do to sign the right over to the child's mother?

Easy answer... yes you can sign your rights away you can not sign your obligations away. You absolutely will have to continue to pay child support!

Why would you want to do that? Is this the father or the girlfriend of the father that is posting. If you sign over rights, you won't be able to see that baby and you will be paying for it emotionally and financially. Please don't do it. Think of how you would feel, poor baby, no daddy.

You basically hire an attorney who will write up the paperwork and file it with family court, you will lose all rights to visit, you can no longer have any say about where the mother moves and does.
Of course you will still have to pay the child support, and maybe furnish insurance on the child. The only way to not be responsible for child support is for the mother to have a new partner who wishes to adopt the child.
Honestly think of this, if you can just give up the rights and don't have to pay child support, would there be 1000's of people in jail right now for non payment of support.

I love how Fr_Chuck sometimes ends his "signing rights away" post with the mention of jail for the 1000's of men not paying their owed child support. Good job on explaining it to everyone Fr_Chuck, I needed that in the beginning too. Thanks, Startover22

In addition, attempting to voluntarily relinquish/terminate your parental rights in many states without an adoptive party requires "good cause" in order to be awarded or may be denied.

Yes startover, I don't believe in "work houses" for anything but parents who do not pay child support, since putting them in jail for not paying, still does not get the other parent paid, makes them lose what job they may have, and only gets them farther behind,
Sound have some public work project where the non payers have to go and do hard labor and all that money is sent to the children,
