It seem like lightening up is an addiction for darker skinned people. You don't hear of light skinned people trying or even wanting to darken up, so why must dark skinned people be hypnotized by societies perspective of beautiful when we know damn well that society is predominantly white and remember, “what's white is right”. We as colored people are supposed to be strong and powerful, but we submit to light skin like sad, desperate, weak people. If it's because you see black men with white girls, I'll tell you like this, it's because they really, really, really, really, wanted a white girl… not because of complexions; it's the whole deal. Be proud and make the best out of what you are. Ten years ago people were not thinking this way. Black was beautiful. People were proud to be black or dark skinned! What happened? Is light skinned in now? Who cares, it'll fade just like it had before. And plus, who cares in the white mans society. We're not hear to please them but more ourselves and out people. What the hell do they know about what is beautiful in the dark races? Being even toned is one thing, but light skinned……….. Why? To look like Ashanti, Alicia Keys or Beyonce. Remember, the white man runs everything and like anything that looks close to the. That's why they're famous. That doesn't mean they're better looking black people. And for men or anyone that thinks that, need a serious wake up call. Be proud and if you have to say this to make yourself feel better, “ the white man, this is they're territory in which we were stuck in. What do they know about beautiful in dark races. All they care about is EUROPEAN”]

"It seem like lightening up is an addiction for darker skinned people. You don't hear of light skinned people trying or even wanting to darken up,"

Ever heard about tanning? That is what fair people do to look darker. I live in canada. No beaches for miles yet there are more tanning salons then starbucks stands.

" so why must dark skinned people be hypnotized by societies perspective of beautiful when we know damn well that society is predominantly white and remember, “what's white is right”.

why do africans stick disks into their ears. why did the chinese practice footbinding. why did women in the victorian days wear corsets so tight that it pushed their organs our of shape? there is nothing special about the social pressures that exist in the african american community. all cultures, races, nationalities have their own standard for beauty and people choose to fall for it just to fit in or they dont. sad but thats life. deal with it.

"We as colored people are supposed to be strong and powerful, but we submit to light skin like sad, desperate, weak people. you have a huge misconception why many people choose to lighten their skin. do you make such a big deal about women who get breast jobs or men who lengthen their Johnson? i doubt it. but for some reason skin color change from dark to light hits some kind of nerve. never mind the fact you dont seem to make the same kind of consideration for people who tan. look, skin color doesnt make you who you are. a black man raised in China, speaks only chinese, grew up with a chinese background and culture...is not African/"black" but chinese. that my shock you or offend you but if the man doesnt care to learn about his african culture and the people around him doesnt treat him any differently because he is black then who really cares? you? hahaha, please. like the whole world would fall apart if a black man prefers his asian culture. im not proud to be black. im proud of the hard work that ive done, im proud of the fact that i was raised with good morals, im proud of my heritage, my family, my friends... skin color is just something you are born with. be proud of your accomplishments and your culture you are raised with... not your skin color.

" Ten years ago people were not thinking this way. Black was beautiful. People were proud to be black or dark skinned! What happened?"

even before 10 years ago... go back to the 60s and 70s when blacks were just beginning to stand up. that time was about being "NATURAL" not being "black". for years blacks had been relaxing, bleaching and styling themselves to fit the standard of the time. there is nothing wrong with being "Natural", even today. but there is nothing wrong with geting a face lift, butt implants, and wearing color contacts if thats what you really want to do.

"Is light skinned in now? Who cares, it'll fade just like it had before. And plus, who cares in the white mans society. "

Whats up with this "white man's society" crap? a girl relaxes her hair she is trying to be "white"? well... 90% of the world has hair no curlier then about a 3a/b. plus naps are not easy to style (i should know cause i proudly sport a natural 4a puff of hair). you blame "white society" for standards "we" put on ourselves. slavery is over, white domination/oppression is almost completely gone, racism is not socially acceptable and dying so..... what more do you want? why can't people be lightening their skin just to be a lighter shade of dark?

"We're not hear to please them but more ourselves and out people. What the hell do they know about what is beautiful in the dark races?"

first time i can agree with you but im not here to please the "blacks" either. im here to please me and it would please me to be fairer. im not trying to look asian, caucasian, indian... im a black woman who wants to be a fairer black woman. sorry if that bugs you but its not your life.there are blacks who are trying to change their ethnicity and thats their perogative. i dont care what other people do just as long as they are safe about it and are happy with their results. a black person bleaching their skin to match MJ doesnt threaten me in any way but for some reason alot of african amerians feel threatened some how. blacks assume its because people who lighten their skin hate their race and would rather be "white". after the hell Europeans have put most fo the world through, i can understand where that fear, anger and fustration comes from. but i dont see anyone getting bent out of shape over a black man wearing a Kimono and trying act Japanese and i dont see any one whining about a white man puting on some bling, wearing grills, dress in hip hop cloths and talking about how he's a gangsta. but god forbid a black man who bleaches his face to match MJ. haha

"Being even toned is one thing, but light skinned……….. Why?"

Non of your Busness. if you are happy with your skin shade then fine. what does it matter to you what other people do as long as they are safe about what they are doing and happy with the end result. some people prefer to be lighter just like some people prefer to have shorter hair and some people prefer to wear skirts rather then pants. preference is personal. its non of your biz.

" To look like Ashanti, Alicia Keys or Beyonce. Remember, the white man runs everything and like anything that looks close to the. "

"white man runs everything?" hahaha... i just realized you are not dealing with a full deck and i probably just wasted my time with replying to you. "white man runs everything?" lol, good one.

"That's why they're famous. That doesn't mean they're better looking black people."

yeah, we know that people like Beyonce the only ideal for beauty for black people. but those people you mentioned above are beautiful. there are plenty of dark skinned beauties out there who are rich and famouse. we see them on TV all the time. so i dont know what your point is. you dont take offense to someone trying to darken their skin to look like Whoopi, i bet. but there is something wrong about wanting Ashanti's skin color? there are black people who tan you know.

"And for men or anyone that thinks that, need a serious wake up call. Be proud and if you have to say this to make yourself feel better, “ the white man, this is they're territory in which we were stuck in. What do they know about beautiful in dark races. All they care about is EUROPEAN”]"

you seriousely need to get over yourself. you seem to have a specific problem with skin lightening but for all the wrong reasons. its one thing if you said, "why can't people just be natural and accept their bodies just the way they are". Nope, you only talk about people who go from dark to light and how race plays a role with that. You are totally off base, very ignorant and very offensive (at least to me). Evening the skin is OK (according to you), you never mentioned tanning, never even mentioned dark people who tan but skin lightening is off limites?. get over yourself!!

To the person that made a statement about blacks and lightening skin,

This has nothing at all to do with the white man! The only people that care about skin complection is the black man. I am dark skinned and I have never been ridiculed about my skin complection except from black people. White people could care less. It is all black people. If your not light then your ugly and that is the truth coming from black people. So don't try to pin another thing on the white man. Its not always about color you idiot!

Ummm white people are a little more quiet about it now. Don't forget your slavery times when they were verbal about it. Its just on the low like everything else racial.

I'm not trying to offend anyone here but I will say that nothing that anyone is doing here is safe. Even a product that I was prescribed to from a dermatalogist (I mean you would expect them to know better) is not safe.. I am now badly scarred because of it and there is nothing I can do about it but to deal with it. I have been crying about it for days now and there is no prayer that can rewind time for me to give me back what I had before.

I am by no means talking about those few people who are using natural remedies to achieve their desired affect.

Derms are crap. I've been to derms some time ago and their stuff never work.

I think that this is true among a lot of black men, they usually prefer lighter skinned women overall. Some will still date darker skinned and don't discriminate; but usually an average looking lighter skinned woman will get picked over an average looking darker skinned women. That's just the way it is. I think white people actually appreciate color a little more. If you look at the modeling world; there aren't a lot of black models, but most of them are dark skinned( at least the ones I see). There are only a few fair skinned ones. Models like Alek Wek, Naomi Campbell, Iman, and a few others I have seen. I think its just black people who seem to be the most color struck.
And I don't mean to offend some people, but in my experience African men seem to be more color struck than african american men. I don't know what that is about...

You got that right they messed me up too. And they are also racists they won't help you lighten your skin. And most of their products only work on lighty skin black people. They make products for them but there noi one to help us with spots or burns or even hair products that work. And yes for the ones who uses mono and it woreked more power to you we have a right to do as we please and not be judged for it
