Hi, I have been in a common law relationship for 8 years. We purchased a house 8 years ago and it was bought in her name due to my credit rating. I took care of all the household bills and she did mortgage, daycare. It looks like our relationship is almost over and she says I don't own half of the house. I would not make her move but I believe that I do own half. Any thoughts Confused in Ontario Canada

Bucky, sorry to hear about your troubles. According to what I found, you do have some rights. It appears that it is considered a common law relationship in Ontario when you have been together 3 years or more. Since the house is in her name and she paid the mortgage, it may be tough going claiming half the house. But, you do have proof that you paid the household bills. This website I found may help you. In addition, I would suggest finding a good Attorney and make an appointment for a consultation to get a better understanding of what your rights are under the law. Good luck!
