I have a kenmore elite and does not spin does anyone have any thoughts on how to fix it

Check the lid switch - If it does not register closed it will not work... Our switch wore out because it is so old. I bent the lid a bit with a pair of pliers where it meets the swtich and now it is fine... for now...
