Hello my name is tracy I am not a dead beat father I pay my child support and send extray money and buy school clothing as well and other expences as well each month. My daughter is finishing high school this year in June. She has a son that is 1 year old, my grand son and I provid mony for that as well. I just wanted to know what I had to do to stop sending the child suppor to her mother and start sending it to her. And do I have to keep paying for child suppor when she is 18 next month.

First I would say go back to your child support agreement and see exactly what it says. Is she still in school, whill she be going to college
Thank you for being a supportive father

Sounds like you only have a couple more months of paying unless your daughter decides to go to college AND the child support order was ordered until age 21. Most states do not add that and a lot of women fail to ask for it. Once you have legally met your obligations to your daughter you could stop paying support and give any money you choose directly to your daughter/grandson. As previously stated, it depends on what your court order states. Cathy

If your daughter is under 18 you have to ask her emancipation.

Why would he ask for her emanicipation? To avoid any further child support? To be emancipated his daughter would have to show the courts that she can take care of herself. When she turns 18, she is automatically emanciapted as she becomes an adult.
The best advice is to go back to the divorce decree and look at the child support section. It may very well be that when his daughter turns 18, the child support stops. Now, if he wants to continue to send money, that is his own decision.

Don't know where the emancipation point came from. It really has no bearing.
But the laws don't really matter here, the terms of your child support agreement do. So go back and read what it says.

OK, I see why you thought it might be applicable. But did you miss that part about her being 18 next month? No way the emancipation process takes less than a month.

Yes, Scott I think it's possible GV70 might have missed that part. True about the process time but dexdex did ask the question none the less and GV70 was answering it. :) I was just trying to clarify why GV70's answer was referring to emancipation. Although, as it turns out, even though it wasn't going to be real applicable to dexdex I think it is helpful information for anyone reading and wondering about how a kid can get the child support directly. Don't you think? :)

What is the reason for you to think that she will be 18 next month?? My son is 12 and he is in 8 grade...
