Hi, we have one of those expensive French door Maytag fridge/freezers with ice and water within a control panel. All of the lights keep flashing and the little flap that opens when ice comes down the chute keeps opening and closing as if the motor is running continuously. I've seen no evidence of this being reported anywhere, is is a common problem? The warranty expired on April 10 2007 - Dang it! I've tried unplugging the fridge. The first time I did this the problem went away for about 10 minutes then it started again. Since then, unplugging does not make any difference, fridge control panel continues to look like a light show at a 1970 Jimi Hendrix concert.

Of course the warranty expired on April 10, 2007. That's the way there supposed to work. Then the problems are supposed to start happening. Just kidding! But, it does seem a lot of times, that problems with things occur right after the warranty has expired.
We have some really good appliance people on this site, and I'm hoping that one of them will answer your post.

Interesting... our Maytag Ice20 just started doing the same thing tonight! Did the same as you - unplugged, with no change in the situation. Maytag tells me "there's no reset button." Our warranty expired in March, fortunately we bought the extended warranty so I placed a service call tonight. Have you had repairs done, and if so what did they do? Did you leave your fridge plugged in until the repair was made? I'm concerned about fire hazard. Any other problems with your fridge? We've had icemaker replaced, then the new one adjusted... had to have the entire filtration assembly replaced as it started leaking as soon as we replaced the filter... and it's noisy (repairman tells me it's a bubble in the freon line and nothing can be done to fix it). Paid way too much for something that's causing so much trouble. Fridge is also not holding temperature - obviously because control panel is on the fritz and it can't monitor or adjust the temp - so unless I move everything out, I guess my warranty will pay me for spoiled food too.

Our Maygag ICE20 started doing the same thing last night. I'd appreciate any information you have before I figured out what I need to do.

Having the control panel replaced seems to have fixed the problem. Although our local (small town) repair guy actually had trouble reprogramming the new panel (to sync it with our model) - I had to read the manufacturer's rather sketchy directions and help him reprogram! But all is well since the panel was replaced. Thank heaven for my extended warranty - paid for all repairs AND $200 worth of food loss. Good luck.

Just had this happen to me a month or so ago... Our fridge was just out of warranty too. How conveeeeenient! Anyway, yes it's the HV control board. Good luck getting one through Maytag or their dealers. Everything is on Back order! It will not hurt the fridge to cycle like this. You can try to unplug for few minutes and plug back in, may help very short term though. I found the part on my own through, RepairClinic.com. The part number for this website is 1206507. The maytag part number is 12920710. I bought the part for 149.99 + shipping overnight and the labor was 124 to install! So 2 days and around 300 bucks and your fridge is Fixed! NOW when we get h20 from fridge there is a very high pitch noise! Looking for that post now! Good luck all!

It's now 10/12/07 so don't know if you're problem has already been solved. I just went through this in the past 24 hours. To make a long story short, you need a new "HV Control Board". I found a local repair company who did same day service and happened to have the part on hand. Total for call, part, tax and labor was about $340 and it's a done deal.
Although I have a 4 year extended warranty purchased at the same time as the fridge from Lowe's, their computer was down and not expected to be operational until 10/15/07 so wouldn't be able to schedule service until then. But they said if I could get it fixed before then, they would reimburse me. So now my battle will be with them. But at least my fridge is working again!!

I had the same issue last night; flashing lights and the darn door flapping like there s breeze trying to find its way. After some looking around on the web I found the fix for the control panel. Search for "HV Control Panel Repair" written by Stephen Beck... a short trip to RadioShack for the two capacitors (less than $2.00 each) and a cheap soldering iron; an hour doing the reapir and its up and running.

This worked for me to get the lights to stop blinking and just stay on water. (I can open the door for ice, no big deal.) I removed the tray at the bottom, unscrewed the two screws that attach the pannel to the fridge, pulled it out and jiggled some wires. I found that the brown wire connected to the solenoid (I believe) was the culprit. So I bent the wire facing more up and out of the way. It has worked fine for a week now, since I did that. I just want access to clean, cold, filtered water. The fact that I do not have access to ice though my door is quite secondary to me. Good luck all...
