Check your state's website for small business requirements. Most likely you will need at minimum to get your Federal Tax ID number, local business license and to get yourself and your partner bonded and insured.

You need to be insured, if you get out there and ruin someone's lawn and they sue this could close you down with a quickness. Other than that I'm not aware of anything else that you would need. Be sure you work something out to pay taxes on your earnings. Good luck!

You definitely need at least liability insurance. I have never heard of anyone needing a license to cut grass. But, it may depend on where you live. I would check with the city government where you live concerning that.

I would also suggest learning as much about turf grass and it's care that you can. Read books, look on the Internet, talk with others who are in the lawn care business, speak with people who maintain lawns in parks, etc.

In most cities you will need a city tax affidavit, liability insurance, a state tax number, and a business telephone if you are going to do any advertising. And if you plan to do anything with poison you will need a license and the same if you plan to do any type of water sprinkler service. That is to get into business after that you will need about 75% profit to stay in business.
