I purchased a Leviton PR 180 motion activated light control, but was wondering if this could be wired to replace the current 4 way throw switch in its current location. The current 4 way switch is in a 3-switch configuration, but was placed in a location where a motion sensor would work better.

The current 4way has 2 red, 2 black, and a ground connected - the Leviton has a ground (green), a red and a black (load and hot respectively), and a yellow, which they suggest to connect to traveler B in a 3way installation. The suggest the black be connected to hot and to traveler a via a jumper.

Can this be used to replace the 4 way switch, or am, I just wasting my time?

Could be done with Double Pole, Double Throw Relay w/120 volt coil
You will have to connect the reds to the N/C the Blacks to the N/O or vice versa
Doesn't matter. Connect neutral and switched leg from motion to Relay coil.
Also you need to X the contacts.
Visualize dbl pole/dbl throw toggle switch(6 connections)Make an X from corner to corner.
this will need to bedone to relay. Very difficuld to draw with letters.
Good luck.
Remember, if this was the middle of two sets of stairs. Light may switch off
after time.

Or pull switch leg(wire going to light) to 4 way location.
and connect red to black and red to black. 3 ways will work normal.
