Whenever I run my dishwasher, when it gets to the drying cycle I get a strong odor (stinky). Even the dishes will smell if I let them stay in there to dry. I also started to notice it in my garbage disposal. Could it be my roof vent is clogged? We had a plumber come out and look at the lines to the dishwasher and he didn't see a problem. I'm starting to think it's the vent? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had that problem a few years ago and at the time watched one of those home renovation shows. They were taking out an old dishwasher that they said smelled to high heaven. An expert said that it was caused by 'dishwasher cheese' a built up of black stinky sticky gluey stuff on the bottom of the washer door. A client if mine had a Kitchen Aid, running on super hot water, so that was surprising, and low and behold, stinky black stuff the door. This may be your entire answer, however, I don't know how it would make ceramic dishes stinky unless it is just a carry over or mind set. I would check over the dishwasher door on the bottom, just run your finger along the ridge and see what you find. It doesn't mean your wife is a dirty housekeeper, it can happen to the cleanest people !
