1990 Honda Civic with 276,000 miles. Last week while changing the plugs there was about an inch of oil in the bottom of the spark plug tunnels. I have never seen this before, I assume maybe the head needs to be retightened? Anyone here ever seen such a condition?
The car seems to run fine and since it has seen so many miles its like a good old pal.

My bet is that only the rubber spark plug seals, on the underside of the valve cover, have deteriorated. Install a new valve cover rubber seal, while you are at it. Easy job.
Here's what they look like and cost:

Replace the spark plug seals on underside valve cover, bbefore hand you could take a little brake cleaner spray it in the holes and hold a rag over the holes and blow air in the hole most of the oil should soak into the rag. Do it before you put new seals in to avoid damage to the new seals from the brake cleaner, and for your safety double check you cover the hole good with the rag to avoid splashing in your eyes.
