I have a question about abandonment. My son's father left almost 2 years ago and we have not heard anything from him. He has had no contact, no letters, no phone calls in 2 years. He doesn't even pay child support at this time. I was wondering when I can file for abandonment. I also want to know how I can go about changing my son's last name. I gave him his fathers when we were together. I don't know if there is specific things that I need to do. If you could please help me out with this I would really appreciate it. PS I live in New York State and I have no idea where my son's father is. We were never married either. ~ thanks for the help ~

How for behind is his payments, sounds like support enforcement issues,
But his sending the payment is into itself contact, so how long have you not gotten a check?

Hi how are you? I've been dealing with ny family courts for years. What you need to do is file a petition in family court. Bring a copy of your sons birth certificate & petition for it all!!
Your order will only start from the date you file (support, medical etc.)so get there asap & don't stop or give up!! My ex is currently on Suffolk Countys "Most Wanted" & when he left us it wasn't easy trying to find him - he continues to violate the order so I have put him up on craigs list in many categories. I'll get him & you'll get yours too - don't give up!!
