I have a Kenmore Series 70 electric dryer. About 10 years old. Will not start. Hums when you push the start button... and you can smell a electric "burning smell" along with the hum. I disassembled the entire unit last week (when these symptoms started). Everything looked fine... cleaned out the interior and removed a bunch of lint from the interior, motor, and exhaust area... reassembled and it worked for about 5 days. Today... humm is back and will not start. Motor Model S58NXMKE-6674, Part 3395652. Dryer is a 96573220 65732. What is the cause of the hum/what's keeping it from running? Thank you.

Sounds suspiciously like a bad motor the way you describe the problem. Bad start winding or bad start switch or even the motor bearings (bushings) may be bad. Fairly common in a 10 year old dryer. If you replace the motor yourself it'll cost you about $100. if you have to call in a service man it'll be about double depending the part of the country you live.
