Please help. My heat had been set to on all winter and was working but now that its warmer, I went to turn on the AC and I noticed the outside unit was not working and the fan is running continuously. I shut everything to off on the thermostat and the fan still is running. Turned it back on heat and Im getting no heat or no air but blower is running all the time. Thank you

I assume you don't have a heat pump and just regular air conditioning. I'm a bit confused with the fan and blowers. When you set your thermostat co cool, lower the set point, the outside unit should come on. When you do this does the outside fan come on? If you turn the thermostat back to heat the outside fan/compressor should shut off. Your inside blower will run continuously if your fan switch is to the ON position, and in AUTO it will run only if the thermostat is calling for heat or AC. If the outside units fan is running and you don't have any cold air blowing, you could have many different things wrong. It could be low on refrigerant, control problems, or a bad compressor. If your thermostat isn't working correctly, try shutting off the breaker, wait a couple of minutes and turn it back on. If it has batteries, remove them as well.

I have a new central ac and a old furnace that the fan runs the heat and the air. The AC won't come on no matter how low I set it nor will the heat and the fan is running non stop except for I have it shut off by the switch on the furnace right now. My thermostat is on auto and the fan is still running.

Does your thermostat have a heat - off - cool switch? If so did you turn it to off? Does the fan on the outside air conditioning unit come on? This will help determine were to start looking for problems. Has the AC worked before or is this the first time you used it?

My thermostat does have a heat, off, cool. I turn it on heat, heat doesn't come out, turn it on cool, cool doesn't come out. And fan runs whether it is on heat, off or cool. The outside central air doesn't come on and the pilot light on the furnace doesn't try to light. It worked last summer. I just know that when I call someone out here they will try and rip me off because Im a woman. Im trying to learn a little about it before I do that. So, the fan in the furnace runs the CA and the heat? The air was working last summer. The heat has been working all winter. I had the thermostat set on heat which it hadn't came on for a few days because it was warm enough in here. It got hot out 1 day last week, I decided to turn the ac on. I noticed after about an hour it wasn't getting cool in the house, but the fan was running, I went outside and noticed the outside unit was not going. I turned the thermostat to off and the auto/fan is always on auto. But the fan wouldn't turn off. I turned the thermostat to heat and turned it up high and the heat didn't come on, I went to garage and noticed furnace pilot light wasn't clicking like it does when trying to come on. I turned the thermostat to off and fan still ran so I turned off the fan on the outside of the furnace. Thank you for your time.

I would just make a educated guess that your thermostat has gone bad. It's also possible that you've got a short in your AC unit and when you turned it on it damaged the thermostat. You may have to call a service tech who can check it with a meter.

Good luck
