The Belt tensioner is not releasing the belt all the way-If tis a new belt check length - if old belt its proable in the on/off handle or the tensioner

[B]I agree with the first reply but I had this happen earlier this year and I've never seen it before. A friend gave me a nice Craftsman rider that belonged to his parents who had taken it to Sears  because the blades wouldn't disengage. Sears told them besides the blade issue it needed a motor and was too expensive to fix. Uhuh.
So I got it and sure 'nuff the blades started as soon as the motor even with the handle in the disengage position. Took me some time but I finally discovered that apparently someone had "jumped" the mower up on something (right on the pulley w/motor running) and that evenly flattened out the very bottom half of the lower pulley section. This closed up the V in the pulley which took up any slack in the belt hence the blades running as soon as it started. I took the pulley off and with a hammer straightened it to like new and problem solved!!
And by the way, there was nothing wrong with it's twin Briggs and it runs GREAT! :D

Huskee issues I agree with the idea that the pully could be bent and causing the belt to catch and turn the blades I assume this is a manual shift to engange the blades if this is I would also check the deck some times the pully assy are spring loaded and if they get rusty or dirty they can hang up with the blades in gear.
