I have a 95 Honda Accord. V6 Engine. When I brake for a stop the pedal wants to continue to compress. I then have to press even harder to keep the car from moving. I checked the brake fluild levels and they are find. The ABS reservoir is showing low. The manual says that there could be a problem with the ABS system. What issues are we looking at?

My wife used to drive a 1994 Accord EX, where the ABS reservoir was low. Due to the high pressure in that part of the system, we had Honda fix the problem. There was a problem with the fittings sealing properly in the ABS, allowing fluid to leak. It cost $850 to fix it back in 1997. We were told it was a problem well known by Honda. If retapping the threads and installing new fittings didn't solve the problem, we were told it would cost $2,000 to replace the ABS.

You also want to make sure the calipers and master cylinder are not leaking, that brake pad thicknesses are okay, and that the brake fluid has been changed in the last 2 years. Only use DOT 3 or DOT 4 ABS approved fluid.

Check for ABS codes.
