At work we have a small car park area.
However the boss made it clear that some staff are not to park there BUT in the garage below us, which is 2 floors beneath us.

Is this discriminating?

Some can park outside like Managers etc, while other staff like assistants like me, receptionists etc can't park outside.?
We do have clients who come on a daily basis, but as we work in a busy area the spaces sometimes are taken by people who don't even work here!

I would be interested to know the answer to this. When I worked at the bank we also were not allowed to park in a certain area-only the president and other higher ups. If we did park there, are cars would be towed!!

At work we have a front and back car park, the front carpark is less of a walk and better protected and inside the ground of the workplace, so were protected by work. There were several parking spaces other than CEO etc spaces that were not being used.

They held a lottery to give them away to avoid exactly the predicament you are in...

Sorry that I cannot help any more than my own experience... I don't know the legal situation.

No its not discriminating, its part of the perks that go with a job. The only way it would be discrimination is if the restrictions were based on age, sex or race. But its perfectly OK to do it by job position.

ScottGem do you think it's okay if they have your car towed?

Yes. If there are stated rules and those rules are violated, then they have that right.

Well if they let only white people park there, or if they won't let just american Indians park there, or if they will only let women who sleep with the bosses park there, but besides that, it is letting higher up management have better parking.

Just part of the job. Bosses and those with higher positions get all sorts of things lower workers don't. Parking, sometimes bonus money, sometimes gifts, vactions and a lot more. It is basically just they way businss works.

Heh, I agree.

If you were CEO but you had to be paid the same amount as the janitor because otherwise it's discrimination... I know I certainly wouldn't be particularly happy.

Just another form of payment for the job you do.

Interesting!

It just seems that the higher up positions get everything - good money, good car parking spaces, cars.. petrol paid for etc etc...

And generally they earn it. Companies have to provide salary and benefits to attract quality personnel.

Yes as a VP of a major company in years past, I got a company car with all gas paid, all management had their own assigned parking lot, I had an expense account, and paid at lest 4 times as much as the "normal" worker, they got a 25 dollar chiristmas bonus, I got a trip to Fl and 1000 spending money. This is just how business works.
