Hi my wife run up the back of a car at a roundabout on September last yr doing what look to be no damage to the car she hit but me car what able 2 drive away but was off the road 4 2 month. But the other driver didn't give us the damage reports into the 20 of December that cost $800, 1000 and 1300. When he came round to give them to us I ask he why it was so long from the day of the crash he got angry and said that it happen in November not September and that he whated the money. Because he whated 2 go to the more expective one [1300] so we gave he a bank cheqe. I thing he whated the money 4 xmas do you agree?
Was he able 2 do what he did? Help.

Don't know much about American law but in UK insurance companies would be involved and there would be no pay out like you describe, if it was settled without then it would be done almost instantly. And normally at least two estimates would be given, unless it was a minimal amount. Take care, love and peace anne xx

Hello shrek:

What did he do? He collected money for the damage your wife did to his car. Sounds perfectly normal to me.

"was he able 2 do what he did?"

You gave him the money so I am going to say - yes.

Was he padding his Christmas budget? Maybe. But, he did ask for an amount that he provided a receipt for and not more.

Here in the US you would have been sued for the damage to the car, the lost of value to the car and most likely some pain and suffering to the occupants, too.

You don't specify where you are, but term roundabout and your spelling of cheq, make me think you are not from the US (btw, this is not text messaging, it would help us understand you better if you wrote in full words and sentences).

Its also not clear what the different amounts represent.

In any case, where was your insurance carrier? Since he was the victim (your wife ran into him), he can do what he wants. What you should have done (if you didn't want to report this to your insurance), is have the car taken to your own shop and let them prepare an estimate and pay that.

I will agree with scott, the poor spelling and word usage also makes me believe you are not in the US,

But if she hit the back of another car, she is at fault, and most people turn this over to their insurance, so if your wife hit his car, you call the insurance company and let them pay them, That is why we pay insurance. If you don't have insurance it does appear he had three estimates for repair, and honestly a scratch on a bumper can cost almost a 1000 to smooth out a small dent, and repaint or re-chrome, or replace with a new bumper.

So basically if you do settle with them, you need to do it in writing, that this is full settlement, so they can't come back after more money latter

But as noted, when you have a accident, call the poice, and let the insurance company handle all of the people who have claims
