I wrote some checks on a canceled account in the amount of $500.00 to $700.00. I've been told that anything under $1000.00 is a misdeamenor and over is a felony. Is that true? I have no criminal history and no outstanding warrants. What should I do?

Tell the people that need to know, you will pay it back ASAP, do not miss a payment, and don't ignore it, they will get you one way or another. And LAST, DO NOT EVER DO THIS AGAIN. Pay it all back and say sorry. What would your mother say? GOSH!

There is first a big difference from writing a bad check and check fraud,
Next depending on your state, for example in GA, you can take all of the checks written over a certain time frame and combine them as one crime, thus you will have charge of check fraud for writing three 500 dollar checks and it will be a felony.
Also even if they go with a misdemeanor, they can make each check one count, and give you up to a year for each ( and they can make you serve each year one after another, many ways for a DA to make it hurt
