Hi , I was just wondering if anyone can help me with a question about my house cats, now I have had these cats since they were kittens and they grew up together, they have all there shots and are both fixed, they are 2 females and they are inside cats, they do not go outside, now I left for work the other day and they were fine, 9 hours later when I came home it was like wild kingdom in my kitchen, and its been going on for a few days, now they are both eating and drinking and playing , no changes in them physically , but when they meet on the stairs or they are in the same room with each other its insanity, I am afraid that I am going to come home from work and one of them is going to be dead, I just want to know if this is something that I should be worried about or if they will work it out on there own, as I said I was not home when this first happened so I don't know if they were palying and one of the cats got a little rough and hurt the other , I am lost, I don't understand why my girls are acting this way, could someone please help me.

What do you exactly mean by "wild kingdom" and "insanity"? Could you please explain?

Well the reason I say wild kingdom is because they can't even look at each other and they go nuts they hiss and growl at each other and its kind of scary, I find myself jumping in between them, its so unlike them, I mean sure they play and sometimes they get a little rough but this is the first time that I have ever seen anything like this, as I said trhey are healthy and eating and playing but they just don't seem to like each other at this time and its freakin me out!!

I have had cats all of my life. Some friends of mine who had two cats had a similar situation occur. One of the two just started attacking the other one for no apparent reason and it just kept going on. This was after the cats had lived together for many years. They eventually had to get rid of the aggressive cat. You may need to do the same and separate them for their sake and your sanity.

Thanks for your input, I really appriciate that, I am afraid that's exactly what I will have to do and that is not something that I want to do, however I can't have them at each other all the time especially when I am at work, so I will let it go for a few more days and if nothing changes I am afraid I will have to make that painful decision.

Just another idea. If cats personalities can change like this then I would presume that they can change again for the better. If I was in your situation, I would suggest maybe a separation for awhile, (months) then get them back together and see if anything has changed. Maybe you have a friend who wouldn't mind taking one of them in for a while?

I know how you feel. We hate to see our families breaking up.

I really don't want to have to get rid of one of them but I will try your suggestion and see what happens, its hard its like choosing between your kids... lol, hopefully they will work it out and I will not have to worry about it!!

Keep them together, they will aventually get along and you won't have to worry about this problem. They will get used to each other.

It's possibly a case of misdirected aggression. Sometimes, a cat will see something outside that upsets them (a strange cat, dog, etc.), and if they can't do anything about it and the other inside cat comes by, they attack the inside cat instead.

So, I'd try covering the windows while you were at work, and getting some of the Feliway diffusers and seeing if that helps with the situation any.

The cat may be sick, or in pain. Try new food bowls(seperate) or new toys. They will most likely work it out.
