This is just a guess as I am NOT an expert. Try removing the cables (not sure if that's the right wording) off the battery for about 30 minutes. The reason I say this is my son did not put the gas cap back on after pumping gas in our honda and after I put the gas cap on the engine light stayed on. I took it off the battery for 30 minutes and the engine light went off.

Yeah I've disconnected it several times already I was really wondering if there are any other things I would need to check. But thanks for your help.

The problem may not be with the EGR Vacuum Control Valve but with the EGR Control Solenoid Valve. Ensure there are no hose vacuum leaks. Check vacuum hose routing of the entire EGR system. My guess is that it could be a bad EGR Control Solenoid Valve. If this doesn't solve the problem, focus on the ECM.

In the fuse block in the engine bay there should be a fuse labeled back up remove that fuse (if equipped )this fuse resets the ecu.

Yeah um as far as hose replacemen;will that solve the problem. Also I have an air intake (after market) would that affect anything. Also I have the haynes manual but it doesn't show what the solenoid looks like. I recently found out the have a hole in the exhaust pipe, would that be the cause of the problem.
