The internet is chock full of resources. Do a Goolge search and add more details. You will find thousands of sites. As well your local library and bookstore will have sections devoted to this subject.

I'm a firm believer that when doing something like this, the very best way to learn is to fiddle.

If you have no idea where to start, then sure get some tips, but after that you should fiddle, make mistakes, learn from mistakes.

Hi.
Well it all depends on the type of network connection you're attempting to do.
The best one between two computers is this:
Buy a direct PC to PC network cable, 100-1000 mps (megs per second)
Make sure that the length is OK, depending on the distance between the two pc's.
Operating system compatibility should be taken into account as well. (win98, 2000, xp works fine)

Hi
you can also go wireless. You need x2 bluetooth dongles, provided there's a direct line of sight because you might get signal loss or interference if obstructed by a wall, etc.

If you are just now learning about networking, the best thing to do is to start simple, and build up from there. For equipment, I suggest buying a small network switch and following the directions exactly. You can pick up a decent switch for about 50-75 bucks.

Linksys.com has a lot of resources. Learning Center, Q & A's, FAQ's .
e-learning.com had a free A+ certification course. Can't hurt to check
