Sorry, I have no advice for you, but I'm glad to find someone to relate to. Here's what I posted on another website:
I am 19 years old right now, but I am considering the possibility of adoption after I turn 21. I have been looking into different places that offer that option versus the standard 25 year old option. The option is available, although not as easy to find. I would be adopting as a single parent, which will make things more difficult. Does anyone have advice as far as dealing with adoption biases related to specific conditions? I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder a few years ago, and although my medications have been stabilized and I have been doing pretty well lately, I am concerned that it might be a problem if I decide to adopt. I am good at caring for children, and I know that individuals with bipolar disorder are capable of caring for children, if only for the fact that my mother has it too and she raised me well. Some difficulties, but a success story.
If you find out anything, please let me know. I live in Maryland, but I'm interested in adoptions in multiple locations. Thanks.
