Here in the UK,tonight at 7.00pm (19:00 GMT),see's the return of Dr Who,with Christopher Eccleston as the doctor, and Billie Piper as his assistant Rose.
Everyone I talk too seems to be waiting for it with baited breath,as although an episode was leaked onto the internet (the person who did it has now been sacked),most people did'nt bother to 'cheat' and are instead waiting to view it on it's original medium of television. Will it be as good as the others. It is apparently high tec, with no more 'wobbly' sets.
What is it about Daleks,Cybermen, and odd-looking aliens which appeals to all walks of society?
(I will be watching as well. :D )

Watched episode 1 and thought it was brill.Slick, fast paced, good script,British sci-fi at it's best. Here in the UK,the show is a legend, and last night's 'opener' did not disappoint. The chemistry between Chris Eccleston and Billie Piper was spot on.Bring on episode 2! :D
Update 31st March,2005.
Christopher Eccleston has quit after just one series. He will now appear in the remaining 12 episodes. His given reason is that he is afraid of becoming typecast.A second series will begin filming later this year.Rumours flying around are that Bill Nighy,or Richard E.Grant are in the running to take up the role of the Doctor.I for one am disappointed,as Eccleston is one of the UK's top actors.
[For UK viewers. If you dont want to know the xmas plot, dont read anymore!!!]
Update 16th April,2005.
For UK fans,David Tennant has been confirmed as the new DR Who.He will regenerate into the tenth doctor during this year's xmas special, where Christopher Eccleston will be injured while saving Rose from the Daleks!
Update 21st May,2005.
Rumours circulating, but as yet unconfirmed are that Billie Piper (Rose),will only make a maximum of seven episodes during season two.More as soon as I can confirm this edit. What is confirmed, is that Christopher Eccleston will NOT be appearing in the xmas special,as I'd stated previously, and that episode 13 of season one, will see him bow out of the series.
Update 11th June,2005.
Now confirmed that Billie Piper (Rose) WILL be appearing in all season two episodes,to co-star with the new doctor,David Tenant.
Update 24th August,2005.
K9 will return in season two, along with Elizabeth Sladen,as Sarah Jayne Smith. Both will appear in an episode with ex Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Anthony Head.See the link below for more details:

I remember watching Dr Who at least 20 years ago. Is this the same Dr Who you guys are talking about? I think he had curly brown hair. I used to watch it but, unfortunately, like other shows I usually don't remember a lot about them like you guys do.

More or less.
The series was off the air for about 15 years, and is now back.

Yep, the fourth doctor is the one I saw. I think I was in kindergarten when I used to watch it. :D Wow, that brings back memories. I guess that was more than 20 years ago (28 to be exact). I didn't quite understand the concepts but it entertained me and kept me out of my mother's hair before I went to school. I didn't think it was that long ago with so many different doctors.

I wish they would get it out on DVD here in the US

I really love the new series! I'm disappointed though that Christopher Eccleston left after only one season. I think he made a much more interesting Dr. Who than David Tenant.
Nez
Dec 15, 2005, 07:11 AM
Er,David Tenant will be seen fully,as the brief Children in Need sketch doesn't count in my book, for the first time on Christmas day,in the Christmas Invasion,so we'll have to wait and see whether he will be as good as Chris Eccleston.I too was a bit disappointed that Eccleston quit after season one,but he claimed that he did'nt want to be typecast as "The Doctor".He is currently filming the DaVinci Code, with Tom Hanks.
David Tenant will bring a different style to the series. He will be "mad",a clown, and his closeness to companion Rose results.. dare I give the game away... oh damn, yes I will... in a "screen kiss" between the two of them.Might upset Who purists, again.
Unsure whether Elizabeth Sladen, returning as Mary Jayne Smith in later episodes will be a good idea though. If she turns up with K-9,I hope the Cybermen tear it to shreads :D

Not to mention I really hate Billie Piper. Can't she stop smiling? All the way through the entire episode, all she does is grin and make stupid comments. ;)

I have to admit in the Doctor who series her acting is so crap & false.
Nez
Dec 15, 2005, 09:59 AM
DJ,DJ,DJ... the ex wife of Chris Evans, not talented.Surelly no...
Billie Piper was born in Swindon on 22nd September 1982. She has a brother Charlie and two sisters, Harley and Ellie.
An interest in acting led her to enrol at the Sixth Sense theatre company in 1990, which led to acting roles in several television commercials and an episode of EastEnders. More studies at the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London followed.
When Billie was chosen as a spokesmodel for the British pop music magazine Smash Hits in 1997, scouts for the new Virgin Records subsidiary, Innocent Records, spotted her and signed her to their label.
Her first single, Because We Want To, propelled Billie to the status of the youngest solo artist to debut at number one on the UK charts. With the help of the follow-up number one single Girlfriend and the release of her debut album, Honey To The B, Billie named the UK's Pop Princess and Best Female Star at that year's Smash Hits Poll Winners party.
Billie took a break from singing when she married media mogul Chris Evans in 2001, but recently relaunched her acting career with a string of critically acclaimed performances in projects such as The Canterbury Tales and Bella and the Boys.
Don't you think the image of her, looks cool:D
DJ 'H'
Dec 15, 2005, 10:07 AM
I know all of that. Being from Wiltshire it's hard not to. Swindon is only 20minsutes away from my home town. Her songs were absolute crap - the only one worth listening to was "Day & Night".
She was quite good in that Drama thing she was in (cannot remember for the life of me what it was called). I know she was given the songs to sing so it's not her fault - it was her managers fault and the record company's fault and she was lucky that it appealed to the kiddie generation. I mean "Honey Bee" OMG and "Girlfriend" OMG - but I will give it to her when she changed her image and got a little older "day & Night" was a catch tune.
I just don't think the role she has in Doctor Who suits her. From the episodes that I watch she just seemed a little OTT with the acting and it did not come across as realistic.
Sorry I am a dramatist & a singer so I can be critical - but I will say fair play to her - she got into the indusrty!! I am just not her biggest fan.
Nez
Dec 15, 2005, 11:05 AM
Now she can sing. She's as mad as a March hare, but what a talent.Thought her latest album,Arial, was a little self indulgant though. No tracks were about Daleks, but one, interestingly, was about her washing machine.Er,Kate Bush's,and not Billie Piper's,if you see what I mean.

At this link you can see the first interview with Dave Tenant, talking about his new role as the Doctor. You will need to click-on the "player" link,to watch. It is a cool eight minutes worth. But be warned,it is a spoiler for the Christmas Invasion episode, due to be shown on BBC 1,at 7:00pm,xmas day.
I don't know if anyone outside the UK will be able to view the interview, due to the paranoid mind-set of auntie-BBC,the licence fee,and all that, etc. But you can still read what he has to say about his role, plus other acting bits he has done.

I find the political correctness issue thrown in as an afterthought distracting.
Also, the mystery of the original Doctor Who seems to be gone. Maybe because the inside of the time machine is too brightly lit, or maybe because
Of the flippant way in which this new Doctor goes about his buisiness.
In short, if he's not worried or concerned about where he places his machine or where he winds up or who he encounters, then whay should we the viewers be?
Just a note to true Dr Who fans, that season two will not be filmed in HI-Def,due to the extreme cost:
Thanks for your email. The new (second) series of Doctor Who is almost
Entirely 'in the can' and has been filmed on standard cameras rather
Than High-Def ones. There is some talk about the third series (due to be
Shown in 2007) possibly being recorded in Hi-Def, but that hasn't been
Confirmed or denied yet.
For a programme like Doctor Who, with expensive computer graphics,
Costumes and make-up, Hi-Def will bring lots of additional costs and
Expenditure, so such a move needs to be planned and prepared for very
Carefully.
Kind regards.

OK so 2 parts in and I'm not 100% sure about this new hourish format.
I'm so used to story's being over 4-6 episodes with progression and cliff hangers that this all seems a little to rushed.
On the whole thought I'm very glad it's back and getting serous viewing figures.

To the tune of The Lion Sleeps Tonight,so the ex-skeletal bones of the unsuspecting, were welded onto cyber-space.I thought a better tune would have been Walk like an Egyptian, but maybe the bosses thought better of that.So the Cybermen appeared, like some cross-dressing robots, with slightly dodgy silverware, and speech,"You will be deleated!" Too slow to catch a cold maybe, their military walk seemed a little Monty Python, but maybe that's too harsh.Without giving the game away,Rickey,or is that Mickey? Goes from zero,to hero,in part two,so said the script editor.Best sight of all,Roger Lloyd-Pack,in his wheel chair,as a demented Trigger (Only Fools and Horses),only this time,as the mad creator of the Cybermen.Great stuff.
