I have a Whirlpool Gold Ultimate Care II Dryer. It is making a terrible grinding sound. It almost sounds like metal grinding. It makes the sound on any setting. A dryer repair man I know told me that I shoud just buy a new one, because it's probably the motor, and it will cost me so much after parts and labor that I could get a new one. I really can't believe it... it's only two years old. I would like to have someone look at it or try to repair it myself before giving up. But I also don't want to waste money. I would like a second opinion... does anyone have any suggestions or know what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance.

OK, let's give it shot! Many times a metal grinding noise in a Whirlpool dryer comes from an object stuck between the drum and the felt seal, mostly on the inside. Open the dryer door, using a flashlight, stick your head into the drum and use your free hand to rotate the drum. I've removed nails, screws, coins, small stones and other objects.
There is a seal in front AND rear where the drum meets the bulkheads. I'm pretty sure it may be your problem.
And after you fix it, tell that repairman that told you to buy a new dryer without looking at it, that he is NOT a very good technician!

Ralph, thank you for your advice. I found someone to look at the dryer and he found that a screw had come loose and the blower was loose instead of bolted down. I really appreciate you taking the time to offer your suggestion. I learned something new about dryers that may come in handy one day!
