Part of what we’re going to have to do is to start experimenting with new forms of journalism and how we use social media in ways that reaffirm facts and separate facts from opinion. We want diversity of opinion. We don’t want diversity of facts. That, I think, is one of the big tasks of social media. By the way, it will require some government regulatory constraints…”

But of course it has to be done within the "constraints" of the First Amendment . (wink wink nod nod) Gone is the fact that the First Amendment absolutely restricts government's power to impose such "constraints " .

Vigilant Fox on X: "Barack Obama says the quiet part out loud — it’s time to “experiment” with “new forms of journalism” with “government regulatory constraints.” “Part of what we’re going to have to do is to start experimenting with new forms of journalism and how we use social media in ways that https://t.co/Rp7TENsqmE" / X (https://x.com/VigilantFox/status/1983378802894876859?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5 Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1983378802894876859%7Ctwgr% 5E0ef1f52d22c9f21bf4510addabf69bebb1a1b294%7Ctwcon %5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fhotair.com%2Fed-morrissey%2F2025%2F10%2F29%2Fobama-we-want-government-censored-diversity-of-opinion-in-journalism-or-something-n3808340)

Also what was left unsaid was that the Obama-Biden regimes were well on their way to implementing his vision

With the wrong choices in the next couple of elections we are potentially looking at a 1984 Orwellian world . The western "free "nations are well on their way to achieving that dystopia .

EU has fined Elon Musk for $140 million for not requiring X to comply to their censorship standards .
It has something to do with the blue check verification system on the platform .

X’s crime? Breaching the DSA’s privacy requirements by refusing to decrypt and share troves of user data for government use…

Musk responded “if we quietly censored speech without telling anyone, they would not fine us. The other platforms accepted that deal. X did not,”

Meanwhile in Germany storm troopers went to the home of author C J Hopkins ;author of the book 'The Rise of the New Normal Reich' . His violation ? The cover of the book has a satirical image of a swastika on a surgical mask . The book is critical of the covid regulations adopted by Germany during the pandemic.

The new 'National Security Strategy ' paper that was published this week expresses great concern for the direction Europe has taken

American officials have become used to thinking about European problems in terms of insufficient military spending and economic stagnation. There is truth to this, but Europe’s real problems are even deeper.
Continental Europe has been losing share of global GDP -- down from 25 percent in 1990 to 14 percent today -- partly owing to national and transnational regulations that undermine creativity and industriousness.
But this economic decline is eclipsed by the real and more stark prospect of civilizational erasure. The larger issues facing Europe include activities of the European Union and other transnational bodies that undermine political liberty and sovereignty, migration policies that are transforming the continent and creating strife, censorship of free speech and suppression of political opposition, cratering birthrates, and loss of national identities and self-confidence.
Should present trends continue, the continent will be unrecognizable in 20 years or less. As such, it is far from obvious whether certain European countries will have economies and militaries strong enough to remain reliable allies. Many of these nations are currently doubling down on their present path. We want Europe to remain European, to regain its civilizational self-confidence, and to abandon its failed focus on regulatory suffocation.

Marco Rubio and Vance have come out in support of X . But so far Trump is mute about this . That is concerning . Musk caved on this issue before because Trump isn't backing him.

Brazil Musk's X to be reinstated in Brazil after complying with Supreme Court demands : NPR (https://www.npr.org/2024/10/08/nx-s1-5146510/brazil-x-twitter-court-reinstated-elon-musk)

I don't understand Trump's muted response. My best guess is that if X gets fined and banned then Truth Social will benefit. That won't happen. Truth Social is occupied by Trump acolytes almost exclusively. X has users from all sides

Some Repubs are giving lip service on the issue. But if Trump does not back Musk and X then we will be right back to the Censorship Industrial Complex we had when Jack Dorsey owned Twitter .

Trump should take a lesson from then. He was being deplatformed across all media . That is why he started Truth Social in the 1st place. But Truth Social wlll never have enough influence to matter . He needs to back Musk on this now..... and I mean now .

Brussels insists X must make data about advertising on the platform readily available to outsiders, and shouldn’t use its terms of service to prohibit data scraping by “eligible researchers.” The EU claims this open access to X’s commercial data is vital to allow researchers and “civil society” to spot scams and information warfare.
That reference to “civil society” is a tell. Brussels wants to force X (and inevitably other platforms) to share data that hostile activists can wield against the platforms in future regulatory actions or litigation. All based on a theory that European citizens are too dumb to take the things they read on X or elsewhere online with a grain of salt.

Yeah that's the ticket . They want to relieve the citizens of Europe from thinking for themselves . In doing so they would deny us the same basic right .

"Mr. Musk wrote on X last year that the European Commission, the EU bureaucratic arm levying the fine, offered X a “secret deal” to drop the case in exchange for the platform censoring unspecified forms of speech."

Meanwhile in England they want trials without juries .
Justice secretary wants most jury trials scrapped (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy7vdvrnnvzo)

Under the new plans, all cases bar those concerning murder, rape, and manslaughter will no longer be held in front of juries, but heard by a judge alone unless it is deemed to be ‘in the public interest’ to have a jury . Isn't that a fundamental right going back to the days of the Magna Carta ?
Trial by Jury - Magna Carta: Muse and Mentor | Exhibitions - Library of Congress (https://www.loc.gov/exhibits/magna-carta-muse-and-mentor/trial-by-jury.html)

How's that for putting democracy at risk ?
