An interesting case is going to be heard by SCOTUS. Here's the details

2016 the IRS did a digital dragnet to seek and find anyone who may have been cheating on their taxes through the exchange of crypto currency.

They ordered crypto exchange Coinbase to hand over transactions of over 14,000 customers.
Jim Harper was one of them . He found out after the IRS sent him a warning letter claiming he under reported his income. They were wrong. But when he dug into it he found that the IRS had his transaction logs, wallet addresses, and public keys ;his whole digital footprint . In other words ;all his transactions past and future was in their hands .

The 4th amendment is clear.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated

But what if his papers and effects are digital and are being stored by a 3rd party provider ? Does he have the same protections ?That's the question SCOTUS will have to answer . He wants the IRS to delete his records .
