I see dead people.... "The Sixth Sense" (1999) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9GNkCHknGs)

Elon sees dead people . He has a screen shot of them to prove it.

Elon Musk on X: "According to the Social Security database, these are the numbers of people in each age bucket with the death field set to FALSE! Maybe Twilight is real and there are a lot of vampires collecting Social Security https://t.co/ltb06VX98Z" / X (https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1891350795452654076)

His critics say that the files need updating but that doesn't mean they are collecting government checks.

So who is telling the truth ? Could be both. Musk may be exaggerative the problem while there is still a problem. or maybe he is not exaggerating

This is not new. We knew this a decade ago.
Flashback 2010

Since 2000, the known cost of these payments to over 250,000 deceased individuals has topped $1 billion, according to a review of government audits and reports by the Government Accountability Office, inspectors general, and Congress itself. This is likely only a small picture of a much larger problem.

Social Security is not the biggest culprit .Well at least in paying dead people. Their big fault is over paying live people.

SSA issues over $1 trillion in benefit payments annually. Even the slightest error in the overall payment process can result in billions of dollars in improper payments. For example, from FYs 2015 through 2022, SSA paid almost $8.6 trillion in benefits and made approximately $71.8 billion (0.84 percent) in improper payments, most of which were overpayments

As with all of DOGE finds ;unless there is Congressional action to correct them it will all be wash rinse repeat.
