The left wing "fact" checkers at PolitiFact has named their "Lie of the Year"
Their selection is that Trump and Vance in the debates claimed that immigrants are eating pets .
PolitiFact | ‘They’re eating the pets:’ Trump, Vance earn PolitiFact’s Lie of the Year for claims about Haitians (https://www.politifact.com/article/2024/dec/17/theyre-eating-the-pets-trump-vance-earn-politifact/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1734437743-1)
At the time I made the case that they were correct. There was video and an immigrant charged for that very thing
But that hardly matters . Let's for the sake of discussion assume that Trump was lying about it .
Was that then the biggest lie of the year ?
Not even close.
These words by Kam the Sham is the lie of the year.
"I would say that age is more than a chronological fact. I spend a whole lot of time with our president, be it in the Oval Office or the Situation Room and in other places. And I can tell you, as I just mentioned, not only is he absolutely authoritative in rooms around the globe but in the Oval Office, meeting with members of Congress, meeting with leaders in industry, meeting with community leaders."
Not only Kam but everyone else who knew that he was a feeble geezer with mental decline who in fact was Not functioning as President were the liars of the year .

One case of a single pet being eaten is rather different from the claims of multiple events.
Not really under lies, but my faves are Trump buying Greenland and reclaiming the Panama canal..

As stated let's assume what Trump and Vance were wrong. Let's assume they knew they were wrong and blatantly lying. This still would not be the lie of the year compared to everyone who encountered Clueless Joe stated until the day he resigned that he was fully cognizant and capable of running the country .
As I posted here . Both the Wall Street Journal and the NY Slimes had lengthy exposes recently detailing how his competency was covered up since his 1st days in office in 2021

Panama Canal .
I thought it was foolish to give up the canal zone. We built it and maintained it . It is a strategic chokepoint similar to the Brit control of Gibraltar . There are 2 parts to the treaty . One Trump keeps harping about that Panama was supposed to neutrally manage the canal and have nondiscriminatory fees . Trump claims the US is being ripped off. I don't know if that is true or not .
But I do know that they have violated the 2nd part . They have outsourced the management of the entry ports at both ends to the Chinese. It is a vital strategic interest of the US to have secure access to the canal. The Chinese controlling the entrances is a strategic threat .
Greenland From a history perspective any nation having sovereignty over it is a new thing.
Denmark declared sovereignty in 1921 Before that it was claimed as a colony by Denmark Norway ;and US explorers claimed parts of it .
Trump is echoing the sentiments of Harry Truman who had an interest in purchasing the land after WWII .
Denmark owning the land violated tbe principles of the Monroe Doctrine.
During WWII we landed troops there to prevent the Germans from using it as a base of operations against mainland US.
After WWII the threat was the Soviets . Today with China being in the Arctic and shipping passage ways opening Greenland is becoming a more strategic land
Truman secretly made a pitch to Denmark to buy Greenland in 1946 . Trump is just being more open about it . Greenland has been incorporated in the US defense plans for years. The Danes don't have the means to defend it given the distance from Denmark and the fact that it is about 50 X bigger than Denmark .
If the US acquired it that would be the largest land purchase by the US since Alaska.

Anyway I am less concerned about what Trump says than what he does. I expect that the Panama canal threat is a means to negotiate transit rates. Greenland I take as serious as his comments about making Canada the 51st state. However ;if we were to obtain it ,it solves the problem of where to ship the illegal immigrants .

More lies to consider . Clueless Joe stumbled and wandered around at meetings with world leaders like he was looking for his lost marbles . It was caught on video and went viral .
His own personal Bagdad Bob went to work . 'Don't believe your lying eyes . Those videos are AI generated "cheap and deep fakes".'

Another one . Throughout the campaign Kam the Sham reversed past radical positions and usurped position that Trump took . She suddenly was tough on the border . She was suddenly in favor of fracking.

Joe likes to compare himself to FDR. There is a case to be made that the coverup of his health is comparable to the coverup to FDR's crimpling condition during his Presidency . Many Americans were not aware that he was wheelchair bound.
Of course the difference is that FDR's mind was sound to the end. Joe has been a walking imbecile his whole career .It only became noticeable when he became President .

Flashback 1803. The US was an Atlantic coast nation . President Jefferson recognized the potential of a threat if a nation hostile to the US controlled the city of New Orleans and thus the Mississippi River on our western frontier . So he sent James Monroe and Robert Livingston to Paris to negotiate with France to purchase the city and parts of Florida . They had an offer of $10 million on the table. The French had just lost Haiti in a revolt and were pretty much sick of using their resources defending their American territory. Napolean had continental wars to fund.
So he made a counter offer to sell all French holdings west of the Mississippi River to the US for $15 million.
The Federalists were outraged . Jefferson was being an imperialist. He had no constitutional authority to make the purchase they argued .
Luckily they were a minority on their way to irrelevance. A treaty for the purchase was negotiated and the Senate approved it. That purchase doubled the size of our young nation.
Andrew Johnson is largely considered a failed President. He was the 1st President to be impeached .
1867 he sent his Sec of State William Seward to Russia to negotiate the purchase of Alaska. The price $7,2 million (about 2 cents /acre for 600,000 acres of land ) was outrageous . Critics called the purchase Seward's Folly. Alaska is not even geographically connected to continental US. It is nothing but an icebox.
Well that argument lasted until gold was discovered . Since then Alaska has proven to be a wealth of resources . Further it anchors our northern flank from a hostile Russia, It gives us a claim to what will be one end of one of the most important shipping lanes in the world. Eventually it will have the same importance as the Panama Canal ;the Suez Canal and the Strait of Malacca .
What is at the eastern entrance to the Arctic Sea ? Greenland .
Is it really that crazy to want to obtain Greenland ? China would love to have a presence on the island. Truman understood the value. That is why he made an offer for the island . After all the US used our treasure to defend the island in WWII . The Soviet Union poses a threat to us during the cold war. They would've loved to control the island .They couldn't because the US used our treasure to defend it . It certainly was not Denmark.
Where else is China a presence that poses a strategic threat to us ? Yes ;the Panama canal. China runs the ports at either end of the canal. The deal with Panama was negotiated with the assumption that the US interests would be protected .
President Carter said :
Throughout the negotiations, we were determined that our national security interests would be protected; that the canal would always be open and neutral and available to ships of all nations; that in time of need or emergency our warships would have the right to go to the head of the line for priority passage through the canal; and that our military forces would have the permanent right to defend the canal if it should ever be in danger. The new treaties meet all of these requirements.
Historical Documents - Office of the Historian (https://history.state.gov/historicaldocuments/frus1977-80v01/d67#:~:text=Throughout%20the%20negotiations%2C%20w e%20were,line%20for%20priority%20passage%20through )
This is not true anymore . What Trump wants is for the spirit of the treaty to be honored .
Now all this talk has his critics in a panic. Here's a secret . Trump is playing them . These issues are NOT the top of his priorities and agenda. What Trump is doing is the equivalent of using a laser pointer for the cat to chase. The Dems and the compliant press are dutifully chasing the light.

compliant press still covering for Clueless Joe. As books about the 2024 elections are hitting the shelves ;it is clear that everyone surrounding Joe knew of his failing mental capacity and covered it up . A new book 'Uncharted :How Trump Beat Biden, Harris, and the Odds in the Wildest Campaign in History'
It has former Joe Chief of Staff Ron Klain as one of it's primary sources.
The new spin is that it wasn't a coverup as much as everyone around him being in a “fog of delusion and denial,” believing he could serve another term.'Uncharted' details President Biden's decline : NPR (https://www.npr.org/transcripts/nx-s1-5354956)
The water carrier winner has to go to Chuck Todd.
He cited 'Uncharted ' to claim he believed Biden’s aides were unaware of his decline due to benign ignorance and Trump Derangement Syndrome.
"But I understand the argument about the collective on that front," he went on. "The only thing I can chalk it up to is this — whatever you want to call it — this fear that some members of the media had sometimes that they would be perceived as helping Trump if they somehow diminished Biden,"
Former NBC host Chuck Todd admits media feared that covering Biden's decline would help Trump (https://www.yahoo.com/news/former-nbc-host-chuck-todd-230008710.html)
In another interview he said
“And a combination of that and Trump’s behavior made them not see how damaging Biden might be to the public. Because they were comparing it — well, hey, yeah, we’ve got the forgetful guy, but Trump, right?”

Yup it was Trump's fault.
