Tis the season for the haters to slime anything Christian. Their assault is unrelenting .
In this edition ; the Simes thought it was appropriate in the days before we celebrate the birth of Jesus to question the bible account of the "virgin birth".
The question by the author of this hit piece was : How do we follow the historical research without causing offense?
Then the author of the book proceeded to trash one of the basic articles of Christian faith.
I love these stories from the Gospels. The skies opened up when I heard them. They picture human lives drawn into divine mystery: “God in man made manifest,” as one Christmas carol says. But at a certain point I had to ask: What do they mean? What really happened? They are not written simply as history; often they speak in metaphor. We can take them seriously without taking everything literally.
The author who is a self proclaimed Christian contends it was possible that Mary was raped by or had an affair with a Roman soldier . She says there is historical evidence.
