Both were there to peddle their nation's influence to South America.

How did they do ?

Xi and several hundred Chinese business leaders used Chinese funds to open a new deep water port facility to expand trade .

What did Clueless Joe bring to the party ?

We gave then used trains from California and a handful of Black Hawk helicopters

The Chinese invested USD 3.6 billion in the Peruvian project, which began in 2021 and is near completion. The deepest part of the port will be 17.8 meters, which will allow it to berth the very large cargo ships that have a capacity of 18,000 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units, the standard measurement for the capacity of cargo ships); the largest cargo ship is the MSC Irina (https://web.splogistics.com/blog/post/758/msc-irina-se-convierte-en-el-portacontenedores-de-mayor-capacidad-del-mundo), built in China, with a capacity of 24,346 TEUs. The Chancay port will be complemented (https://cechap.up.edu.pe/wp-content/uploads/Working-Paper-Nro3-Omar-Narrea.pdf) by a train line that the Chinese will build that runs from the port into Brazil’s state of Amazonas to the Free Economic Zone within the city of Manaus. Trade between South America and China will be direct and will not need to be transshipped through Central or North America. Shipping time will be drastically reduced, making trade more profitable at both ends.

Instead of helping Peru construct a comparable infrastructure project, the US government was only willing to sell it used diesel trains from the 1980s.
Adding insult to injury, the Joe Biden administration falsely told the public that it “donated” these 40-year-old trains, but in reality Lima had to pay millions of dollars.

Be assured that in the future this new port will be a port of call for the expanding Chinese Navy.
