View Full Version : Trump wants to tap into Canada's faucet to fight California wild fires .

Does he not know how stupid he sounds when he says stuff like that ?

“You have millions of gallons of water pouring down from the north with the snow caps and Canada, and all pouring down and they have essentially a very large faucet,” “You turn the faucet and it takes one day to turn it, and it’s massive, it’s as big as the wall of that building right there behind you. You turn that, and all of that water aimlessly goes into the Pacific (Ocean), and if they turned it back, all of that water would come right down here and right into Los Angeles,”

This is the type of off the cuff comments he makes that makes him sound uniformed . There are huge issues in the diversion of water. The diversion of water from the Colorado River is a complex compact between 7 state to divvy up the water of the river in an equitable manner . This took a lot of negotiations and an act of Congress.
Add to the complexity a deal between nations .

If he wanted or even needed to bring up California water issues all he needs to do is consult with former Rep Devin Nunes ;who just happens to run 'Truth Social ' for Trump. He would tell Trump that California has plenty of water IF it was properly preserved . It is nothing new for California to be in drought conditions . It happened for centuries . Left alone most of the southern part of the state would be desert. But in the north the water flows and there are wet seasons . Where does all the excess water go ? It flows out to San Francisco Bay into the Pacific.

As he wrote in 2015

Water that originates in the snowpack of the Sierra Nevada Mountains runs off into the Delta, which has two pumping stations that help distribute the water throughout the state.
But on average, due to environmental regulations as well as a lack of water storage capacity (attributable, in large part, to activist groups' opposition to new storage projects), 70% of the water that enters the Delta is simply flushed into the ocean. California's water infrastructure was designed to withstand five years of drought, so the current crisis, which began about three years ago, should not be a crisis at all. During those three years, the state has flushed more than 2 million acre-feet of water — or 652 billion gallons — into the ocean due to the aforementioned biological opinions, which have prevented the irrigation infrastructure from operating at full capacity.

Trump needs to rely more on surrogates to answer questions for him. AND he should stick to topics related to the campaign. He will not win in California . Why is he even there ?

It's comments like this that make Trump appear to be considerably less than the intelligent man he is. It borders on the comment a congressman made years ago about the danger of Guam tipping over into the ocean and capsizing.

He also has another endorsement problem . Remember his endorsement of people like Dr Oz and Hershel Walker led to the Dems taking the Senate.

He has a problem in North Carolina this cycle. NC is a critical swing state. Trump has endorsed Lt Guv Mark Robinson for Guv. calling his MLK on steroids.
Turns out that is not an accurate description of the man.

Mark Robinson, the controversial and socially conservative Republican nominee for governor of North Carolina, made a series of inflammatory comments on a pornography website’s message board more than a decade ago, in which he referred to himself as a “black NAZI!” and expressed support for reinstating slavery, a CNN KFile investigation found.
Despite a recent history of anti-transgender rhetoric, Robinson said he enjoyed watching transgender pornography, a review of archived messages found in which he also referred to himself as a “perv.”

Now of course we already have a perv in chief in the White House.

I guess it would have been hoping for too much that the Trump campaign would have vetted this guy before endorsing him???

Maybe Trump had a point about California water . I know Devin Nunes did .

Almost from the start I was hearing and reading conspiracy theories that the LA fires were from arson .

Yesterday a man was arrested in LA for arson. He allegedly is responsible for the 'Kenneth fire '

Besides incompetent resource management and arson ;add theft of fire hydrants as an issue in LA

Between January 2023 and May 2024, more than 300 fire hydrants were stolen from L.A. County streets, according to data from the Golden State Water Company, which manages the fire hydrants. That's led to a $1.2 million loss for the company.
Officials started seeing a rise in fire hydrant thefts in late 2022, a trend that has only accelerated in recent months, according to Golden State Water Co. general manager Kate Nutting.

VDH has a post on X that is a must read

LA is burning. And the derelict people responsible are worried that they are found out as charlatans and empty suits.

The leftwing voters who enabled them are getting angry over the inferno that their chosen politicos green-lighted—as if they are shocked, shocked by the consequences of their voting.

The dam buster Nero Newsom made his accustomed fiddling appearance and then split—when the media began pointing out that he prohibits new reservoirs, sends precious water out to sea, blows up dams, prevents precautionary gleaning of forests and chaparrals, and then usually blames “Climate change” or “Trump” when called to account.

Poor Karen Bass was DEI-ing in Uganda after being previously warned that lack of rain, record winds, and kindling-like hillsides put her city in existential danger: Out of sight, out of mind.
Or did she junket across the world to consult about fire prevention with Ghana’s new president?
Was slashing nearly $18 million from the $50 billion city budget, after bragging about creating “451 new positions” in various woke/DEI fields, a way to prevent 25-square miles of Dresden-like desolation?

The embattled Fire Chief Kristen Crowley for two years has bragged not of response time, not of preventive strategies to stop fires, not of slashed budgets and water shortages, but instead about her DEI credentials as the “first” (fill in the blanks) LGBTQ etc. woman, who has hired “70 percent” of her force as either nonwhite, or nonmale, or nonbinary, or non-old fashioned, tough-guy firefighters.

The LA utility head? Usually AWOL. The permanent director of LA infrastructure is usually quickly fired or resigns for incompetence, bribery, or malfeasance.

Joe Biden? He was there—but only to try to put thousands of acres of federal land off-limits to roadblock the evil incoming Trump administration.Did Joe have ideas to save LA? Maybe, but as usual he talked instead about himself—in this case his new great-great grandson and the miraculous salvation of his grandkid’s house (not the 1100 structures that then were ashes). And then he left, dispirited that his last junket to Italy may have to be cancelled.

Kamala Harris, our vice president?Remember her during the 2024 campaign and how she rushed to Florida to glom onto Gov. De Santis’s masterful performance in dealing with record flooding?Nowhere was the LA resident to be seen, as she too plans next week a last minute multimillion-dollar freebie junket.

What is the attitude of these “public servants” in times of existential crisis?Maybe it’s: “Ashes, ashes, all fall down”….

Great article. It's really hard for me to feel much sympathy for those who have lost so much. The people of Cali have become "progressively" more and more looney with their voting patterns. Well, you frequently get what you ask for.

Except that apparently we are on the hook for their folly .

And that is just the tip of the iceberg . More than half the states in the union are overextended with pension obligations for their public union workers (up to $6.96 trillion nationally) . Us schmucks in the private sector get to self fund or partially self fund our own retirement plans . Pensions have for the most part became a memory from days gone by .

But the states caved into union demands and their solution was to promise but not adequately fund retirement plans .

I'm not feeling sorry for them except for the fact that eventually we will be called on to bail them out too.

Person of interest ;arrested for using a blow torch to ignite fires in LA is Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva;an illegal immigrant . But under California's sanctuary laws he may allowed to walk.

He entered the U.S. at an unknown date and has had multiple encounters with law enforcement since November 2016. Sierra was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon on October 10, 2023, in Van Nuys, California. The Times reported he had been under probation supervision since that time.
Arrest records viewed by Newsweek showed that Sierra had at least four encounters with L.A. law enforcement over the past year. ICE said Sierra was arrested by the LAPD on January 10 on a felony probation violation in connection with the California fires.
When an illegal immigrant is charged with a crime by local law enforcement, ICE can issue a detainer for that individual, meaning its officers can take custody of them once they are released from jail or finish a sentence.
Under California state law, police and sheriffs cannot ask individuals about their immigration status or share such details with ICE.

. Exposed power lines keep causing fires and keep not getting buried underground because it's expensive. I've heard people say, Do you want to pay more taxes to fund this?

No, I want you to use the exorbitant taxes you already collect to prioritize it. The power lines that cut through Topanga weren't upgraded because it endangered an herb, the milk vetch, which sounds like something they serve at Passover. I mean, talk about not seeing the forest for the trees.

You know what the absolute worst thing for the environment is? Wildfires. A 22 study found that the smoke from just the two in 2020 wiped out 18 years of carbon reduction in the state, which means we suffered the pain of driving those early model Prius

California is the place that spends money and gets nothing, which is why you may have noticed when the fires broke out, no one escaped by high speed rail.

We just got our kicked by fire. Something Neanderthals fought to a tie. The good news is our fire chief is a lesbian.

Deputy Chief Kristen Larson said this.

DEPUTY CHIEF KRISTEN LARSON: LAFD FIREFIGHTER: You want to see somebody that responds to your house, your emergency, whether it's a medical call or a fire call, that looks like you.

MAHER: Which would sound kind of racist if a Southern sheriff said it. So, so, so we should be sending white firefighters to white houses and black ones to. Who teaches people this bullsh*t?

Hmmm LA had plans to rezone called "Livable Communities Initiative "

Los Angeles City Council moves forward with Livable Communities Initiative | Urbanize LA (https://la.urbanize.city/post/los-angeles-city-council-moves-forward-livable-communities-initiative)

Basically the plan mirrors the 15 minute city concept . The idea is that people live in communities where all their essentials are 15 minutes away. This eliminates the need for cars . Streets are converted to pedestrian and bike lanes. Mass transit completes the elimination of the need to drive.

Mobility as a Service (MaaS) Feasibility White Paper Final Report - Southern California Association of Governments (https://scag.ca.gov/post/mobility-service-maas-feasibility-white-paper-final-report#:~:text=Connect%20SoCal%2C%20the%202020%2D2 045,the%202024%20Connect%20SoCal%20update.)

The plan had been approved before the fires

The Citywide Housing Incentive Program will work alongside the Community Plan updates to create citywide incentive-based and streamlining strategies aimed at creating more housing, especially more affordable housing. While the Citywide Housing Incentive Program will be designing housing incentives based on general criteria and not modifying the underlying zoning, the Community Planning programs will be looking at communities at the local level to fine tune land use designations and zoning regulations on the parcel level.

Housing Element Rezoning Program | Los Angeles City Planning (https://planning.lacity.gov/plans-policies/housing-element-rezoning-program)

The fires have created large swaths of land that can be converted into smaller lot 15 minute communities .
