With self important fanfare Clueless Joe announced a 10 nation coalition of the willing to patrol the critically important sea lanes around Yemen from the Persian Gulf through the Gulf of Aden and into the Red Sea ;to prevent Houthi pirate terrorist from disrupting the flow of commerce . (Operation Prosperity Guardian)

In less than a week the coalition is collapsing .

Why ? 3 nations ;France ,Spain, Italy will not accept American command and control.

Maybe Clueless Joe's cut and run from Afghanistan without informing his NATO partners has something to do with it ?

The US of course could wipe out the Houthi threat with a single Carrier Group if we were willing ;and had a Commander in Chief with a Clue.

The nations leaving believe in the mission. They don't believe in American leadership under Joe's watch.

In fact ;it is his policies of kow-towing to Iran that enables the Houthis to attack international commerce.

Trump declared the Houthis a terrorist organization before he left office. Clueless declassified them

Revocation of the Terrorist Designations of Ansarallah - United States Department of State (https://www.state.gov/revocation-of-the-terrorist-designations-of-ansarallah/)

Sec State Blinken stated that the listing "could have a devastating impact on Yemenis’ access to basic commodities like food and fuel."

Yeah that and drones ;missiles to attack commerce . Part of the reason for this inflation was supply chain disruptions during and after covid. Now ships are being diverted around the Cape of Good Hope rather than risking a run to the Suez Canal.More than 100 container ships rerouted from Suez canal to avoid Houthi attacks | Shipping industry | The Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/dec/20/more-than-100-container-ships-rerouted-suez-canal-red-sea-houthi-attacks-yemen)

Add to that a drought that is preventing much traffic through the Panama Canal and we have a disaster in the making .

a drought that is preventing much traffic through the Panama CanalI looked that up and was presented with the startling news that experts say the drought is caused by a lack of rain.

Flashback to a time when we had a President who knew how to deal with the pirates of the umma. No we don't have to go back as far as Jefferson waging war against the Barbary pirates who were disrupting commerce.

April 14,1988 USS Samuel B Roberts was escorting oil tankers in the Persian Gulf so the Iranians would not disrupt shipping, It ran into a mine the Iranians has placed in the Gulf .The explosion ripped a 30 ft gash in the boat and injured 10 sailors.

Although a lookout saw that the ship had entered a minefield, because a few mines were floating at the surface, no one saw the mine that the ship hit. It was tethered in 250 feet of seawater and positioned just above the Robert’s 16-foot draft, hitting two-thirds of the way down the ship, on the port side. “In a heartbeat, a single low-tech weapon had roughly halved the structural strength of a U.S. Navy warship” (pg. 127). The damage control efforts were phenomenal, which included firefighting, shoring, flood control, electrical bypassing to get gear back online, especially the fire pumps! All the training paid off, but the hellish conditions took their toll on the crew. The book took a full chapter to describe the damage from the mine, and another three chapters to describe the damage control efforts required to save the ship. It was later determined that the minefield had been laid by the Iran Ajar.

President Reagan responded with "Operation Praying Mantis ".It turned out to be the largest naval battles since WWII .

The U.S. response was fierce. Operation Praying Mantis was the largest of five major U.S. Navy surface actions since World War II. It was the first, and so far only, time the U.S. Navy has exchanged surface-to-surface missile fire with an enemy, and it resulted in the largest warship sunk by the U.S. Navy since WWII. In the one-day operation, the U.S. Navy destroyed two Iranian surveillance platforms, sank two of their ships, and severely damaged another.

Operation Praying Mantis (navy.mil) (https://www.history.navy.mil/browse-by-topic/wars-conflicts-and-operations/middle-east/praying-mantis.html)

There could've been more damage done except Reagan called off the attack when Joint Chiefs Chair William Crowe advised We’ve shed enough blood for one day.”

The US attacks ,combined with renewed Iraqi ground attacks on Iran ; and the USS Vincennes downing an Iranian passenger jet that had overflown it's space exhausted Iran. They ended the war with Iraq soon after.

The US military has come under attack over 100 times since Hamas attacked
Israel. Our response has been lame. And now Iran's proxies are attacking critical commerce . It is well past time to make Iran pay a price.

It is well past time to make Iran pay a price. Not only do we not make Iran pay a price, we send them billions of dollars to further enable them to continue the fight.

“Today, at President Biden's direction, U.S. military forces conducted necessary and proportionate strikes on three facilities used by Kataib Hezbollah and affiliated groups in Iraq," Austin said. "These precision strikes are a response to a series of attacks against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria by Iranian-sponsored militias, including an attack by Iran-affiliated Kataib Hezbollah and affiliated groups on Erbil Air Base earlier today, and intended to disrupt and degrade capabilities of the Iran-aligned militia groups directly responsible."
"Today’s attack led to three injuries to U.S. personnel, leaving one service member in critical condition," Austin added. "My prayers are with the brave Americans who were injured."

I don't want proportional responses. I want them to know attacks on the US is NOT an option . I don't want their capabilities disrupted . I want them destroyed

As predicted ;the cost of shipping is soaring. Rerouting shipping around Yemen and the Suez canal has raised the cost of shipping containers from Asia to Europe by 173 % . Shipping to the US is up 52% It takes 2 weeks longer to go around Africa's Cape of Good Hope compared to using the Suez canal.

“The supply chain pressures that caused the ‘transitory’ part of inflation in 2022 may be about to return if the problems in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean continue,” said Larry Lindsey, chief executive of global economic advisory firm the Lindsey Group.

Not to worry. The Biden admin will soon have it all under control. They will possibly appoint KH as the new "shipping czar" after her stunning successes in controlling the southern border.
