Or rather Clueless Joe's surrender .
Audrey Tang ,a minister from Taiwan ,was making a video feed address to the summit .But the video feed was abruptly cut off when the minister displayed a map that had Taiwan separate from the PRC. The color coded map showed Taiwan as a democratically free nation separate from China .
The White House ordered the video feed stopped. The White House offered no formal comment, but the State Department said “confusion” over screen-sharing resulted in Tang’s video feed being dropped, calling it an “honest mistake”.
But it was not an honest mistake. Clueless wants it clear that the US has a "one China policy " which of course plays right into the Chinese narrative. The One China policy is a semi-official agreement allegedly made between China and Taiwan in 1992 .Only PRC has officially endorsed it
Previously the US had a policy of “strategic ambiguity”. China sees Taiwan as part of China and if necessary to be taken by force. And the Clueless policy of one China reinforced and emboldens China. They have taken advantage of Clueless's weakness by ramping up military and diplomatic pressure against Taiwan.
The summit that Clueless promised to host during the campaign was a bust. Instead of uniting the democratic nations of the world; with common goals based on freedom, universal rights, individual and national autonomy and international cooperation ...under US leadership as Clueless imagined, the summit managed to divide democracies. Some were not invited. Others with at best questionable credentials attended the summit. Other democracies were no shows.
He is largely correct that the world democracies need to unite to fend off totalitarian regimes that would exploit democratic nation's weaknesses. A stronger President may have pulled it off.
