“As I make the final walk on my life’s journey, I do so without fear. Because I know that I will, again, not be walking alone. I know that God will be walking with me,”
“I also confess that I’m a bit curious to learn if I am correct in thinking that heaven will look a lot like Kansas and to see, like others who have gone before me, if I will still be able to vote in Chicago.”

I hope heaven looks a lot like New York State -- Niagara Falls, the Finger Lakes, Lake Ontario, the Adirondacks and Catskills, the Hudson River Valley, Letchworth State Park, and so much more.

all the time My home was in the Gateway to Harriman Park .My wife had a trail that she maintained on Torne Mountain (the place where Jasper Cropsey made some of his famous paintings

I spent a summer at Mount Tremper in the Catskills camping ;inner tubing down the Esopus creek ;catching crawfish for dinner .

I climbed Mt Marcie in the Adirondacks and spent time at Lake Placid . I had a season pass to all the State Parks including Minnewaska near New Paltz and had a separate season pass to Mohonk Preserve .
There are few outdoor places in the state I did not visit .

Letchworth yes I vacationed twice in the Finger Lakes region. Only spent a day at Letchworth hiking and checking out the waterfalls . Shroom Lake no . The only other place in the Adirondacks I spent time at was Indian Lake .

a little trivia about Mt Marcie. It is the highest peak in NY . Teddy Roosevelt decided to climb it . This was in the days immediately after President McKinley had been shot by an anarchist. McKinley has stabilized and seemed out of danger . So Roosevelt traveled from Buffalo to the Adirondacks . He set out to climb Mt Marcie . The climb to the peak takes more than a day round trip. McKinley took a turn for the worse . So a guide was sent up the mountain to intercept Roosevelt .Roosevelt made it back to the lodge he was staying at and rested up . But he got restless and impatient . He started at midnight a 35 mile trail through the dark park in a buckboard wagon that normally takes 7 hours in daylight He changed drivers and wagons a few times and arrived at the train station in record time..... to learn that McKinley had passed away and Roosevelt was Pres.

Hmmm July 1961 . A couple of weeks from my 6th birthday . My family was preparing to make our brief move to California.

A bit of trivia . This mountain had a view of the Hudson Valley in the Ramapo mountain pass .It was strategically important because the Brits wanted to cut off New England from the rest of the colonies during the Revolution By water they would need to travel the Hudson River to control the Hudson from NYC harbor to Albany . Washington ran a big chain across the river at West Point to prevent that . The land route from Albany was through the Ramapo Pass . So Washinton garrisoned the pass and set up his Headquarters there. I lived in a community that could legitimately boast that "Washington slept here "

Jasper Cropsey was part of the Hudson River School of artists that painted landscapes along the Hudson River .
Here are some of his other works .

I have to love the hypocrisy of the left .They vilified Dole when he was a moderate Republican Senator. But like McCain ,they love him in death.
Paul Krugman writing in the Slimes writes “Where Have All the Grown-ups Gone?”

"It’s not just that he was a war hero, or that he reminds us of an era in which the two parties were willing to work together in the national interest. His life story also reminds us of a time when public figures were supposed to show some sense of responsibility — to possess basic decency, to admit to mistakes when they made them, even to put their lives on the line in time of war. Human nature being what it is, many people who pretended to have these virtues were hypocrites. But at least that was the ideal, and being an obvious crook, liar or coward was politically disqualifying."
"Not anymore."

The rest of the op-ed he trashes Trump.

Krugman trashed Dole repeately in the past. When Dole was the sacrifical lamb against Bubba ,Krugman wrote
“It is a shame that we must choose between the lesser of two evils, but we must. Mr. Clinton's sins are venial compared with the desperate irresponsibility and cynicism of his opponent.”....“Some people say that this election is not only about policy, but also about character. I agree. But when I look at Bob Dole, I see a man who for the sake of ambition would choose to gamble with the very solvency of our Government…. Mr. Dole deserves to lose.”

Opinion | First, Do No Harm - The New York Times (nytimes.com) (https://www.nytimes.com/1996/09/04/opinion/first-do-no-harm.html)

Dole, Bush , Romney, and McCain all were hated by the left until they either dropped dead ,or like Romney became thorns in the side of the Republican in power .They go from the scum of the earth to 'where did all the great Repubicans go ? '

"...all the great Repubicans", meant to be understood as those who secretly agree with liberal dems.
