Help Briggsdude,

I am in the midst of rebulding a Briggs and stratton model 287707, type 0225 14 HP OHV motor. I can't find an engine manual so I have few questions.

1. Rod torque specs. There are 2 different size bolts 5/16" & maybe 1/4"
2. Head torque pattern
3. middle piston ring (have new rings and psiton) does the notch go up (toward head or down)?
4. any tricks in re-installing the govenor?

Have you been to Briggs and Stratton website and put your engine model and type in to see the manual and the Illustrated Parts List? You should get a manul and find engine specs on their site.

The actual overhaul manual will have to be purchased. You can find them on there too. A repair manual. You might try and go to the Maintenance FAQ section and type a few keywords you are looing for. I was able to use that area and found all sorts of info on adjusting and replacing the valves on my 14.5 OHV.
