Carl wants to install new flooring in his hallway and kitchen. He does not need new flooring in the stove, counter, or sink areas. How many square feet of flooring will he need to purchase?
HINT: To find how much he needs for the kitchen, find the total area of the kitchen and then subtract the area of the stove, counter and sink.
NOTE: The area of the sink would be half of a square.
Remember to add the area of the hallway to answer the question.
SIDE NOTE: I need step-by-step. Thanks.

We can help you, but we can’t do your work for you. The directions explain exactly what you need to do. Find the area, then subtract the areas that don’t need flooring. Post your answer, or where you are getting stuck and someone will help you.

Well actually I am getting stuck at trying to put everything together to get the correct answer. A = LWKitchen: 20 ft x 20 ft = 400 (A - 400 ft)Stove: 4 ft x 8 ft = 32(A = 32)Counter: 4 ft x 8 ft = 32(A = 32)Sink: 6 ft x 6 ft = 36(A = 36)Hallway: 14 ft x 4 ft = 56(A = 56)

You are wrong in 2 areas. The counter and stove are not 4 X 16, look at the open space vs the overall length. The sink is not 6X6, it is a triangle. Figure that area.
