I financed a car from a used car lot. I got a DUI and the vehicle was impounded.
The owner of the used car lot paid the impound fees and picked up the car and
Kept the vehicle. I have now received a letter from a collection agency stating
They will be garnishing my wages to pay off the debt. I've tried to negotiate
With the used car lot owner but he won't even talk to me. I can't pay the total
Because I was unemployed until just recently and I earn minimum wage and live
Alone so money is an issue. Can you give me any suggestions. Thank you for
Your time.

Try to work out a payment with them up to about 25 percent of your paycheck, since that is what they will get if they garnish your wages.

Once the car was impounded, you were suppose to pay the impound and get the car, they only notify the lender before they are going to take and sell the car for the impound fees. Also once you refused to get your car out of impound, and the lender had to get it, you most likely violated your loan agreements.

What they will do at this point, is basically a repo on the car, and after it sells, you will owe the difference ( normally not much less than you owe now) and they will sue you in court for a judgement, once they have the judgement they can garnish your pay, attach ( garnish) your bank account
