View Full Version : The End Of The Republican Party
Athos

Steve Schmidt is a long-time (decades) strategist for the Republican Party dealing at the highest levels in politics and presidential campaigns. Today, June 21, Schmidt renounced his party affiliation and urged voters to vote for the Democratic Party in November.
Here is Schmidt's statement:
“The reality is that our Founders always predicted that one day there would be a president like Trump, and that’s why they designed the system of government the way they designed it. What they never imagined is the utter abdication of a co-equal branch of government, which we’re seeing now. . . . The definition of conservatism now is the requirement of complete and utter obedience to the leader.”
The Leader. In German, Der Fuehrer. In Italian, Il Duce.
As Trump steadily moves closer to his neo-Fascist idea of government, the nation and the world grow increasingly disgusted with his barbarism as shown in his uncaring and evil treatment of babies and small children. There remain over 2,000 children "lost" in the system and Trump's administration cannot, or will not, tell their parents where they are being kept.
This is America in 2018.

He took a step back but did nothing for the kids already in custody. He has had plenty of time to get it right before he started down this path.

Even for you, this is a stretch. Your defense of your man Trump is always to attack either Obama or Clinton or some other figure from past history. Why not attack Attila the Hun?

Immigration has been down and will get the current figures when time permits. It would NOT surprise me at all if this whole exercise in lunacy was a Dufus scheme to funnel money to his peeps that make money off government contracts that incarcerate, and detained people. We have a prison system that rivals any in the world. They are his donors after all, and the Dufus will freely extract tax payer money to fill the pockets of his rich friends.

Who does it benefit? I noted the use of the word appropriation in the PO meaning I'm telling you what to do if you have the funds to do it, so, yes, some grandstanding involved. I think it is sad that you don't have a more bipartisan approach to solving the issues including those for the people already there.

The Mad Dufus King has taken over the republican party, and the white racists nationalists control it now. Old line repubs have a choice to make. Many will be purged from Trumps party so it's bound to get uglier. We see this same dynamic in other Euro countries, not just here.

Just an observation on GLOBAL migration. Lots of countries in chaos and turmoil right now. It's happened many times before and systems were overwhelmed as well.

Global migration exists because of war and disruption. The people of Syria and Iraq didn't want to go to Europe, but circumstances forced them to look elsewhere. No doubt the unfortunates in Venezeula will look to join you in your utopia. You should take these people because it is your interference which caused their misery. Will you take the Yemeni? But have you noticed? Some people have said enough, we don't want these "migrants", we cannot accommodate them. Italy has finally realised that their problem comes from those who profit from the trade and they have said no more. The Spanish have yet to wake up but they will when their basket case economy is reeling, and it seems you are immune to the impacts.

I can only agree Tom. Marxist governments arise in places where capitalist exploitation has overstepped its bounds. They are an unfortunate leftover from the cold war

If dems take the house he can forget his wall, unless he bends over and gives up a lot more than he has so far. Yes he definitely cares who wins the midterms. Any president would.

he needs the GOP majority . I don't see how he loses it the way the economy is peforming . But he will not have enough of a majority to get his way legislatively . So he will continue to use the emperor's solution to advance his agenda . No change ;no difference. As far as the death of the GOP ....it can't happen soon enough. Like the dems ;the GOP is in death spasm mode .

the Dems are turning radical left . I can show you video of many of the Dem leaders who not very long ago were calling for border security .
the Repubics have been a fraud. I've listened to them since the mid-80s calling for conservative ,limited ,constitutional governance . But when they get in power they sell out . What they have now adopted out of convenience in big government national populism .Trump don't know if yet ,but that coalition will sell out and merge with the Bernie Sanders socialist wing to form a new coalition (both Trump and Sanders agree on more positions than most realize ). What has to emerge from the remnants is a tea party like conservative party .

It's starting to look like establishment repubs are becoming independents and voting with the dems right now. The Dufus isn't on the ballot and politics tends to be local. November is shaping up to be more than just the economy though, and we will see if dems keep this immigration fiasco alive that long. The Dufus is adept at changing the news cycle and creating a different crisis to make you forget the last one.
Watch out for the effects of those tariffs the next few months.

I agree about the tarriffs . The immigration thing will remain until the election and then disappear for another 2 years . The Russian ruse is backfiring big time . The investigators are now going to be the investigated and the econony is not going away

The economy is always subject to change and the tariffs will surely accelerate a rise in prices on many sectors of this great economy. Yeah I have been through a few great economic cycles and they always slowdown. You already know that though.

No surprise since repubs run in the other direction. For every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction. Just like those rust belt oldsters felt left out, of course the youths feel the same way.

Congratulations to Alexandria Ocaslo-Cortez who represents the Bronx district I grew up in when that area was working- and middle-class Irish, Jewish, and Italian. We even had a few Yankee ballplayers living in that neighborhood during baseball season.
God bless her and the light she will bring to the dark halls of Congress.

all the punsters got that vote wrong ;just like the 2018 Presidential election ;and for the same reason .....reporters have forgotten how to gumshoe . My district was gerrymandered out of existence . So even though I live across the river ;my district is majority Westchester and the Bronx .
