The picture shows an object found in a house clearance. I have asked most of the museums and by-gone sites for an explanation but with no success. Can anyone help ?

I'd guess some part of a woodworking machine. I can see adjustment screws. Maybe for doweling.

There is nothing that rotates on the object which would exclude any cutting/boring function but I am open to any thing that can prove me wrong. Thanks for your interest.

I can see it is pivoted and since it looks like it pivots back, there is a spring and what looks like a detent. Some type of device with horizontal motion. I worked at building scale chemical pilot plant devices so things like this intrigue me. No patent marks or symbols?

There are no marks or symbols. I do not have the object in my possession and rely on photos. I can imagine that the "curly" rod to be a guide for something like cord or twine. The right hand side is scooped out in a way that would facilitate threading. There is quite a strong spring and I wonder if the middle section can be pivoted back to be in a "cocked" position but for what ?
