My 8 year old lab/collie mix was just diagnosed with diabetes last week. She is not on insulin yet because our veterinarian is in the hospital himself. Before he left, he said if she shows signs like being dizzy or confused, to take her to the emergency vet clinic. Well, she's not doing that, but she hasn't eaten in 2 days and is very lethargic. The thing is, the emergency clinic is more money than we have so I don't want to just panic and take her there. But, if she's crashing and could die, I'll find a way. Can anyone help? Is this serious enough to warrant emergency treatment, or can I wait until the end of the week when hopefully our own vet will be back?

I am afraid it is the emergency vet. Diabetes is a serious disease. It maybe very important to start treatment.

Thanks for the advice, I did take her in. We did all we could for her, but we lost her Friday afternoon. They believe there was more than just the diabetes going on. I am heartbroken, but at least we tried everything we could. I miss her terribly.
