Suddenly Kim wants to hold a love in. I think he could have found a better place than fifties buildings on the border.
If he is serious it should be possible the give him a non aggression treaty that has him stand down his nuclear and rocket programs, very hard to maintain if you are a bankrupt state, and he could even become friendly with the US and others, just as Vietnam has. I expect Xi has explained this to him, probably a condition of benefiting from China's belt and road

We've seen this movie before. Kim's pappy and grand pappy came around to talks and agreements too, and we saw how that worked out.

Yes I know. The original talks with NK got us nowhere and these might too, but your people are showing some optimism so maybe we should too

"Trust but verify"/King Ronald Reagan (1987). You be optimistic, I'll just wait and see. Don't hog the popcorn.

So both are going to reiterate their demands, which are ambit claims, nibble on the sandwiches, be civil to each other. I wonder what bones will emerge so each can claim a historic victory. I suspect Kim's nuclear weapons development has taken a serious hit since the problems with his nuclear testing facility and he saves face by trading it off.

This will be a big photo op for the two fat slobs for history, and nothing else. They both will claim they have done what no one has done before. If they were serious they would have sent the diplomats in first.

As someone on Facebook described it, "their first playdate."

Herr Donald has finally found someone with a worse hair doo . I see the two of them finding a private place to compare the size of their buttons . I see a photo op with Trump and in Kim on the sides and Dennis Rodman in the middle. Anyway I see this ,it is a loss for the US . Trump is making a major concession by meeting with un Kim and getting nothing in return .
Good to see that un Kim's Olympic PR efforts are bearing fruit .

Someone has to be the bigger man and not the child in this and Trump has shown he wants to find a way, after all, he is the "great deal maker". If this is played right Dump could get something worthwhile out of it for the US and open some worthwhile trade doors. He can point to a very successful relationship with South Korea and you can bet Kim would like some of that action.
The first meeting is unlikely to see any concessions on either side so it is unnecessary to bargain the talks and have to get something out of it, the investment is small, just having them not insulting each other is progress

To expect one meeting to yield results is ludicrous. It may take MANY meetings of negotiating to get to a resolution that can work, and do we really think TWO Dufus's with bloated egos are going down that path? Naw take the pictures, share a big mac, and be done with it, and send in the REAL diplomats.
Kim has 3 hostages for leverage, so how about a sign of good faith? Release them.

Yes that is what Dump may come away with, it costs Kim nothing, a win for both.
Reality here, Kim is bankrupt, he can't afford his programs. If he is smart he knows there must be change so all he wants is for his regime to survive. He must have worked out by now that NK lost the war

That should've been a minimum BEFORE announcing the meeting .

Their program is financed by the 12ers .Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of North Korea(their Parliament) ,and former Foreign Minister under Kim Jong mentally Il ,has been a frequent visitor to Tehran. The relationship goes back as far as the Iranian revolution when Kim Il Sung, first reached out to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ruhollah Khomeini, in May 1979.
That is part of what was so sick and perverse about the Iran deal. North Korea has been effectively the Iranian nuclear laboratory. The NORKS have been providing weaponry since the Iran-Iraq war and in return Iran has helped the NORKS develop nukes and missiles .Iran's Shahab missiles have the NORKS singnature all over them.
North Korea hosts Iranian technicians, scientists, and military officials at ballistic missile tests, and vice versa.
One never really knows what herr Donald is thinking . Perhaps this move is designed to drive a wedge in the
Pyongyang-Tehran Axis .

You think Dump is actually that complex, I don't think he can put two thoughts together, let alone two tweets. The initiative was Kim's and Dump wants to be different, do a Nixon and bring Kim in from the cold.

I have no doubt a historic photo op is the highest thing on his agenda, and the shock value of his words on the rest of us is part of his personal amusement. Kim for his part is taking a page from everybody else who deal with the Dufus. Appearing cooperative and conciliatory is how you get next to him favorably. What better way to buy time to strengthen your position, and elevate yourself among your peers.

He got punished for his deeds, maybe not enough for some so let's punish The Dufus instead of giving him a free pass for his scandalous behavior. At least look into it. Oh wait! We are looking into the conduct of The Dufus and his lawyer, and his hired sycophants. Silly repubs try to hide the FACT that his best and brightest are falling like dead flies around him. No wonder he hits the campaign trail and spews his nonsense red meat to his base.
That's all he can do.

Clinton didn't get punished for his scandalous deeds in office, and you want to punish Dump for things he may have done long ago, get real. Dump will come away from the meeting with the honour of having made the move, this will play well to his audience, he will have done a Chamberlain, and he will be able to revert back to the agenda of building the wall, the signature infrastructure of his presidentcy. I'm waiting for the next rabbit or will it be a dove

Good one Tom, the prez has a blind spot for Russians and Koreans right now. And Saudi's and Phillipino's too! Hmm anybody that slobs on him for that matter! What do you expect from a Dufus who hangs at his golf courses as much as his office and wants walls and parades to honor himself.

Seems to me Obama spent a lot of time on the golf course, so is this presidency a part time job?
