In a commercial setting. I'm installing a HWT in a plenum ceiling. Can I use PVC for the drain line on the pan?

Each state has specific requirements regarding the use of PVC in a commercial application, even for something as simple as a drain pan drain line, so the only real answer I can give you would be to check with the local or state plumbing inspector on this question. If you are installing this HWT without a plumbing and gas (or electric) permit then I would do whatever you want as you are already breaking a State code by not pulling a permit and having the job inspected, right?
