The washing machine I am getting can be set to only be attached to a cold water supply. Or it can have both cold and hot. I'm leaning towards cold only. Would there be any real benefit to having the hot water supply also?

There is already a hot and cold water supply set up so it's just down to which I attach to the machine.

It is entirely your preference, subject to the instructions of whatever you wash. While many things can be washed in cold water, some are best in hot or lukewarm water, so probably best to be capable of using both hot and cold and just use the proper settings on the machine.

I thought the machine was able to heat the water. Guess I was being stupid. :P In that case, yeah I'd probably attach the hot water so I can do at least some warm washes. Thanks!

That is a dish washer, it heats the water for sanitation.

Hello Kelpi, many European-made washing machines have cold water connection only. Washing machine heats up its own hot water, as needed.

It is definitely better to connect washing machine to cold water, because that way you can wash color laundry (cold water ) as well as white laundry ( hot water )

Also, majority of today's laundry detergents do good job in cold water wash

Hi Milo! It is a Miele. The smallest one. I thought it would heat the water. I really should go read the specifics. I don't have it here yet. But I would like to conserve water and energy if possible. I know it says you can connect the hot water, but you can also have only cold water - then you program it to know that. I guess then it will heat the water when necessary.

I'm in the USA so they may have given the option to attach the hot water as most Americans are used to doing that.

I might have a try with just cold first and see how it goes. (I mean if the washing machine also heats the water for warm washes). I do heavy duty stuff at the laundromat anyway so it's mostly t shirts and stuff like that I'd use it for. I'll have a look at the detergents for cold water. Haha, I'm excited to do laundry!

Hello Kelpi, indeed, this washing machine has Cold water connection with Hot water connection listed as "optional".

Miele website says about this washer: "....Hot water for cool customers: You can make use of an energy-efficient water supply with a second connection..."

Not sure what exactly they mean by saying "second connection." Look at the washing machine one more time. Maybe there is a hot water port as well
