View Full Version : Can I turn my laundry room into wet room shower?

I need a temporary, accessible shower downstairs. I have a small laundry room with a floor drain and hot & cold water taps. Would this drain be adequate to use as a shower drain? The house is on a slab, so I'd like to avoid any jackhammering. I have a very limited budget.

Does water flow freely down the drain? Hang a (circular?) curtain rod and curtain for privacy and prevention of splatter. Add a shower hose.

As a temporary solution it will be OK. Make sure it drains properly before using. Pour a 5 gallon bucket of water down. In reality, isn't a shower drain a floor drain?

Hello Rozemary,

Drain may be fine, but you should protect your walls so they don't absorb water. Walls should have moisture barrier over studs, and some kind of waterproofing, like tile on walls. The water-proofing is specially important on the bottom, where walls meet the floor. Also, there should be some kind of ventilation in the room, like ceiling fan or operable window to deal with steam generated by hot water. Lastly, you should paint ceiling and other walls in that room with paint designed for bathrooms

Hope that helps

Rozemary,
Be sure to protect yourself & others- make sure a wet / soapy laundry room floor will not be slippery...
