There is a scene from (what I later discovered was) the 1940 black and white film Foreign Correspondent where the hero is trying to escape capture in a working Dutch windmill. He is wearing a trench-coat and the sleeve gets caught in the machinery, just as his arm is about to be pulled in to some gears he manages to pull the coat off. That very scene is being shown on TV in a much later film I am trying to identify, but despite searching film databases I cannot make any progress. I have a feeling that it starred Paul Newman.
